I always assumed AFL players had clauses in their contracts like Amercian pro sports which basically banned them from doing anything remotely dangerous.

P.S. Kane Cornes (a flog but usually on the money with anything Port related) is reporting he needs a reco ..... if so there goes their season already

Find that hard to believe. It is their own down time, they can do what they want.

IIRC I remember something about activities that are deemed risky being out of bounds, whether written into contracts or it's just an informal understanding between player and club I have no idea.

Although you would think they'd have more chance of sustaining an injury in a car on the way to training than sky diving, slam dunking, skate boarding etc..

You’re wrong on all counts. Standard AFL player contracts have clauses expressly banning players from engaging in other sports / activities that have the potential for injury. Even engaging in a game of competitive cricket for a suburban club which a few players have engaged in or the surfers at clubs i.e. Black and Rich years ago, and typically don’t carry a whole lot of risk needs to be approved by the respective club beforehand. It is pretty much the same in all other pro sports.

Yeah, it would be pretty standard and also a perfectly understandable risk management strategy for clubs to protect what is essentially a multi-million dollar investment in some cases.

Connor Blakely of Freo potentially missing 4 months with a hamstring injury.

Was projecting as their Neale replacement so not good for them.

Geese fair few clubs getting injuries at the moment. Looks like we also have a fair few in the injury list, however most of them are the draftees. From the main squad is it only:
Martin: just niggling injuries
Adams: Being managed back
Gardiner: PCL

I think Cameron is back in full training, McCarthy l am not 100% on but seems like he is okay now. Is that bout all of it?

Taking things a bit to personally?
Just a bit?

Never. One always has to have the bottom of the pile of liked teams.....Port for me are the stygian depths of humanity, occupied by necromancers and other practitioners of forbidden arts.

It will be too much when I buy a Port scarf and burn it with ceremony upon my fire pit, to the Lions' theme song, with a circle of chanting acolytes in full Lions regalia.

/ponder.....

Now that's not a bad idea.

There's a poll on the main board "Your 3 favorite opposition teams", we are dominating the poll with nearly 40% naming the Lions as their favorite, just goes to show how likable we are:innocent:. The most disliked is predictably the Bombers.

We are probably the best liked opposition board on Big Footy as well.:D:footy:

All we need to do is start winning and we will once again, be ‘HATED’!

At the moment we 'play an exciting brand of footy' and are down the bottom of the ladder and no real threat ... when we start (please please please) obliterating their teams and start casting their hopes into Sausages ritual circle of doom the love fest might just wane a little.

We are going to be so hated when we start winning. We already have Bundy and Matho milking frees. Zorko is a massive dick at times. Berry/Luggage/Witho have all given out some lip when I have seen them live and arent afraid of some argybargy. Robbo and his antics (like elbowing Sicily on the ground) are lovable when we are losing but downright campaignerish when we start winning. Hipwood is very extravagant in his celebrations and OMac also loves the shoving, as with Walker too. Hodgey is already known for being 'a good bloke'. We have got some dicks at every level. All we need to do is start winning and there will be so much tears and frustration from opposition fans. However a team with Neale and HA will always be hard to hate. Martin is also a very cool bloke. They will temper out some of the hatred.

I was just thinking that, you can't like an opposition team that has Rhys Mathieson in it for very long unless you support them. Once we start winning, our revival will stop being a cute story they can get behind.
