Are GC really that much worse than we were in 2016?

Nah but the suns got ****ed over at their inception. This is the AFL apologising for that.

We are lucky we could get our young core in before the second set of compromised drafts came along.

No, but we're not as big an embarrassment because we're not the AFL's baby.

Good package by the AFL.

It had to be something like that if they were serious.

Much as we love to slag off at the "plastics", the future viability of the Suns will be for the benefit of the Code in Queensland.

If they can hold onto Anderson and Rowell and lock away Lukosious and Rankine, that will be a really good base to build the club in to the future.

And develop them well unlike all their other high draft picks.

Agree,

But they are still in for another 2-3 years of pain....

Players like Pickett and Kelly show that picks are not the be all and end all. No doubt they needed serious help though. The NT and Academy concessions are very generous. Other bottom 6 teams won't be happy at this at all.
Already some serious whining from a few callers to SEN.

The future PP's (2020 and 2021) carry an proviso from the AFL that they are "subject to review" from year to year.

That's according to McClure and Dal Santo.

If that's the case, there won't be any possibility of the Suns trading those future "provisional" picks in this coming draft
The afl.com article notes they can trade the picks.

.

Makes sense to let them trade if it gets a guy like Crouch in.

Ellis(Richmond)also heading there as well from all reports.

If they can get the off field stuff right and sort out their retention issues, they might be up and running as a genuine threat sooner rather than later.

Yep their first string midfield start to looks solid. Defence and forwardline still bush league though.

No point messing about they needed serious help if they are going to survive but I definitely understand how oppo supporters would be angry at this.

Imagine if the next Buddy comes out of NT in 2020 and the Suns get him for literally nothing

The Swans got the current Buddy for nothing.

Yes, there's always two sides the coin.

On the other hand, the Vic clubs get a lot of other benefits like F/S selections falling into their laps....that clubs like GC and GWS (and even us) can only dream of.

Then you get guns like Tom Lynch that need the affirmation of playing for BIG clubs in front of BIG crowds in BIG Finals. Not that I blame him......but it does typify what the non-footy states are up against.

This is why the draw needs to be more equal and give all teams chance to play in Blockbuster games but that will never happen because the AFL wants to maximize revenue above fairness.

OTOH, Us being successful was the best thing that could have happened hopefully a few of the Gold Coast players realise you can stay in Queensland and play in blockbusters... 76k at the MCG for a home and away game.
