With the extra rookie spots they should offer our Mat Eagles a spot. He would fit into their defence quite nicely.
I don't think the AFL will grant the Lions request to allow Eagles to stay on the category B rookie list for another year.

Personally i don't think it will take too much to turn the Suns around. They finished 2 games behind Melbourne and 4 behind Carlton.
Last year was the first year they actually had access to the new Elite Training & Administration Facility. So when trying to entice players like Crouch this will have a huge influence in their decision making. Money of course will come into play.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games year would have been exhausting for the players and more than likely carried over to 2019. Their first home game was round 11 v Geelong. Home games were played in Cairns,Perth,Adelaide,Brisbane. Add in the China game, and i think they were stuffed for 18 months.
Hopefully they get some good quality players for 2020 and stay competitive.
Someone has to finish bottom and it may well be the Suns. If they can get a 6 to 8 win season that would be great for the fans and the AFL.

While the outrage is going to be about the priority picks the no-bidding for Academy prospects might end up being a bigger concession (outside of pick 1/2 this year). If they have any half decent ones over the next few years they've essentially picked up a couple of free second round picks.

Yeah the academy thing is ****ing huge.

Apparently Jeffrey is a first round talent according to a north poster on the main board. Maurice Rioli Jr. is a Richmond father son but now also eligible for the gold coast academy.

Going to be a spicy few years.

Completely missed that Darwin is included in their free academy concession. That certainly helps them a bunch.

Hot take... there is no pleasing some!

Plus he's just making up numbers. Both got the same number of first round picks to begin with. GWS got four mini draft picks which netted them six first round picks, two of which were end of first rounders (though the players they then drafted with those are basically all gone from GWS, e.g. Hoskin-Elliott at #4, Sumner at #10, O'Rourke at #2 and Plowman at #3). GC netted at least two first round picks from trading away players taken from the Qld zone.

It's going to be crazy. People haven't quite cottoned on yet to what it means.

Suns are going to be a super team. They could even pick up basti with their extended rookie spots.

I don't know why, but I just get a feeling Freo's coaching choice is a mistake and they will have another new coach within the next 3 years.

I think it might be because he was nominated as the favourite for the job within an hour of Lyon being sacked.

I just find it odd that it was so clear cut so quickly who was going to be the next coach.

I don’t disagree with the Suns concessions but I am disappointed with the lack of help we received when we were down. Feels like we bounced back all on our own.

We received minimal on field help, but don't underestimate the off field assistance we got.

The afl.com article notes they can trade the picks.

.

Makes sense to let them trade if it gets a guy like Crouch in.

Idf say it's the AFLs way of saying you better trade them for established talent or we might take them off you. It's how you condition a pick without conditioning a pick. A real AFL spin job

On AFL Trade Radio a few hours ago there was a bloke complaining that it should have been Adelaide getting the Draft assistance and priority picks, not GC.🤔😮

Smart play by AFL to be honest, did they do something similar for us a couple of years ago by tying funding to certain changes we needed to make.

Meh who cares if we didnt get our perineum completely tongue massaged by AFL house like the Suns have. Its good for Qld football to have a competent Suns outfit. I will be buying a 3 gamer to see all these new talented players. Once the Suns start winning there will be a large bandwagon just like the our bandwagon this year. Talented lists playing good football is what will win fans here in Qld. Once you have been a fan for a few years you become rusted on just like the 10-15k or so Lions fans that have lived through our decade of pain. Having a competent Suns team will mean our QClash will become almost a marquee match just like the Showdowns and Derbys have been in the past. A successful Suns will dominate the Titans. There is no way the NRL can match the amount of concessions the AFL can dish out for the Suns. I've been here in Parra whilst GWS were in the finals and the amount of support they have is about similar to the Suns. I have no doubt that if the Suns make it to the finals they will have more fans than GWS.

As BRAB said in another thread what happens if they trade those future picks though? If they involve them in a pick swap or something they are hardly able to take them off them at a later date.

The AFL.com article says the picks are theirs to use as they see fit. So in theory they could trade as normal next years picks, that assumes the AFL hasn't told them the picks should be used for experienced players like Greenwood or Crouch.

If the suns do their usual stupud sh*t like giving away pick 2 for a Weller type player then I hope the AFL takes the future picks off them.

Not sure you understood what I was saying. Clearly if they trade them they won't take them off the team that got them. The AFL probably want them to trade those future picks now in order to get some more established talent, so that their rebuild won't take so long. However they clearly don't want to come out and put that sort of condition on them because then they have to, and other clubs, aware that they need to will be looking to come out of those deals a winner. So what do they do, give them the future picks but with a caveat that they can be reviewed, so you'd be better served trading them now for players if you can. If they try and can't get decent talent then I'd imagine the AFl will be ok with that. If they make no attempt at all then they may not look upon it all that favourably. Hope that explains it.

Guarantee that 2020 mid first round pick is to be used on a player.... Crouch or Greenwood maybe. Weird spot to give
Next years 11 for Crouch.
This years 20 for Greenwood.
Take 1 and 2 to the draft, Rowell and Anderson.

Sounds pretty close to the money. Although I'd say 20 is possibly too much for Greenwood.

I do wonder what these mean to a guy like Brodie - Was he still struggling to get game time? How will he go with Crouch, Greenwood, Ellis and the new draftees needing game time?
