There is a cliff coming for Geelong I think... all their best players will be 30 or older come next year... Dangerfield (30), Hawkins (32), Selwood (32), Ablett (36), Taylor (34), Tuohy (30), Henderson (30).

Then you have Duncan and Blicavs both turning 29 next year...

Bit of a Lions of 2005 smell about them I think... lots of aging stars and lots of "nice" looking young players (most of whom only look okay thanks to the older players).
Yeah, that's a risk. Mind you, I thought the same thing about Hawthorn before their third flag!

Geelong is in a funny position list wise. They clearly are in the premiership window so to lose your second best player over the past season leaves a massive hole that almost certainly can't be replaced. So they weren't quite good enough this year and are likely to be worse next year. Pretty s**tty place to be in mentally for their supporters.
Plus Gablett will be a year older...

Hard to blame Geelong for trying to maximise their own position really and if our club were in the same position I would hope we would do the same thing. They are losing a top 5 player in the league to a premiership rival. I haven't seen anything they have said that I would consider particularly disrespectful or poor form. It is all smoke & mirrors though and I expect West Coast to see it as such. Just my take.

Tigers got rorted with their compensation pick for Ellis. 5 years by $600k should be a first round pick compensation.

Looks like the AFL want to protect those Gold Coast picks.

Would've thought Band 2 but the premiers can hardly cry poor after losing their 16th or so best player to free agency after benefiting from getting Lynch from the bottom team in the comp.

I can’t imagine 600k/yr being in the top 5% of earners over 25?
Which takes Band 1 off the table.
Band 2 is meant to be the top 15%
if it were to be in the band 2 bracket surely it would only be just scraping in.
So band 3 might be about right?

It could only ever affect pick 20 and only push it back by one so that's a weird conspiracy theory to run.

$550k is the latest reported, and Motlop only "just" got Band 2 on "about" $500k last year. With the salary cap increasing I can see how Band 3 is plausible, even if the AFL is out there claiming it "just missed" Band 2.

I can't see how it should be a first round pick, more that if it had been Band 2 it would've been fine.

There is a two part article on Tippungwuti in the HUN........wow, I knew a bit about his story but obviously not all of it.

Talk about emotional reading! What an incredible woman his "mum" is....his real one walked out and left him alone at 10mths old.:'(

After reading it, the whole footy world will want to be his family now!

It's kind of funny when we see a compensation pick that doesn't gel with the reported figures from the media our first reaction is "The AFL is corrupt" and not "Wow the journalists got that wrong"

Both of those statements are applicable at times.

Try using BF language please? Have you forgotten where you are? ;)

That's terribly unfair BRAB - it's not like player managers have any incentive to massively inflate contract figures when they are leaking to friendly journos!

Feel that Ellis is a terrible fit for the Gold Coast. Was a passenger in the Tigers team not a standout player at all.

Yeah, it could go terribly wrong for them...I am genuinely interested in how he lives up to the expectations they are paying him for... My only knock on him is he does get run down from behind.

If anything, he'll set the training standards at a different level for them.
Apparently he's a mad trainer, gold coast list will finally get to see what's required to make it to next level.
