Interesting to hear earlier today that Hawthorn aren't rolling with any intra-club matches this year, after a few serious injuries this time last year.

Wonder if we'll be following suit... Almost wonder if there's much point at this stage only a couple of weeks from the three-way down at Carrara.
I think you would need to build some sort of connection or else we will be ruuuuusssty!
When you think in previous years the early match sim games are, lacking in skills at best.

This all makes sense... But then there's also our quite impressive preseason record vs our not so impressive early season record in recent years.

So maybe we really will be better off just getting all the rust out in our two preseason games and then hitting the ground running in opening round 🤔

As it stands we are only likely to get 1 maybe 2 decent hit outs before then anyway.
Which I am ok with.

yep, I'd rather we focus all our energy on the recovering bodies than match practice.

Rusty, dropping games early in the season - so be it. If we get the players fully fit, form and wins will return hopefully.

I can tell I'm feeling the luxury of taking it easy as a Premier. This is quite comfy, I can get used to this :D

Was flicking through the channels on Kayo tonight and Fox footy had a game from the mid 90's of Cats and Bombers. One of commentators mentioned that players were dropping the ball as soon as they were tackled and the one instance that triggered that comment looked very similar to what players do today. Funny how some problems in the game just stick around.

Very different goal celebrations as well. Most are Joe Danniher style of just a few high fives.

Footy has changed in lots of ways. Was that the game where Salmon kicked 10 while Ablett kicked 14 in a losing team?

Yeah that's the one.
1993. A couple of years before the concept of "prior opportunity" was introduced to the laws of the game.

42 goals that day at the G. The losing team scored 37 times. They sure don't make footy matches like they used to.

Yeah that's terrible news.

On the St Kilda news, it will be sad for them too that another big name player will say no despite them throwing the kitchen sink at them.

Is it just me or the rate of injuries seem to be a bit over the top this preseason.

AFL keep starting the season earlier and earlier. $$$ before anything else.
They seem to be intent on sucking whatever they can out of it in terms of the duration and content of the draw.

Whilst it's difficult to assign the blame for any particular injury on that the ultimate outcome logically means more injuries.

I think Sydney showed last year that it's more important to time your run than come out all guns blazing at the start of the year if you plan on being in contention.
