Re: North Central Football League

Based on the Bush telegraph's word on the street.

Birchip $3.90
Charlton $4.20
Boort $8
St Arnaud $18
W'Burn $29
Donald $80
Wyche $101

My two celebrity tips sponsored by Toolybuc Sports Club this year would be, taking into acount that these were fixed odds (which they're not) would be

$30 on the nose for Charlton
$20 on the nose for Wedderburn
$50 Boort to make finals at $3.80

I dont necessarily think Donald will be as bad as you think patty. I couldnt comment on what other sides have got but seems to me as there are a lot more players leaving the league than there is entering it.

Re: North Central Football League

I would rate Heathcote league and North Central on par
North Central cling to a Div 4 championship spot combined with the Mallee while the Heathcote league would be the best minor league in central vic
& Lodden Valley and MCDFL would be very similar standard to each other.
Yes with the north central only having 7 teams competing it is a joke to be called a major league, the heathcote league if they picked their very best side from last year to play interlaegue would defeat ncfl and give the central murray a shake

Where do you play Trent?

You think the best of the Heathcote league would defeat the best of the North Central? What do you base this on?

Im in retirement whistleblower, you only have to look at the players running around in the heathcote league, and with only 7 teams to choose from in the ncfl i thin kthey would be up against it even with the likes of funke and piccione playing in the league last year, as their wouldnt be many proofers to make the team and i think a full strength huntly would beat the mountain boys of last year

You've got to be kidding yourself Trent, all that thin air has got to you a bit i think.... NC had a lot of quality running around last year.

I think that you will find North Central would easily beat the HDFL in a match (if it were to ever happen).

From last year:

Wedderburn - Ben DeAraugo, Ben Rose would tear it up in that league.
Boort - Picoane boys, Craig and Andrew Rutley, Luke Cooney would all easily be in the top tier players if playing in the HDFL.
Charlton - Andrews (what can I say?), Walklates
Wycheproof - Bish, Tinkler
Donald - Funcke, Clarke (Would be one of the best on-ballers going around)
Birchip - Cliff Ryan, Al Smith, Jim Scambler (Had one of the best midfields last year)
St Arnuad - Brearley, Drum, Atkinson

There's a handy 21 players.

I know the HDFL very well, and I'd love to hear a side that could match the players listed above. All of them would play BendgioFL seniors without a doubt, whereas most HDFL players are BFL discards.

Re: North Central Football League

Smasher for the first time we agree on something....
The players listed above playing for NC would definitely carve up ANY district league side without a doubt. Not to mention the likes of Judd, Connors, Robbie Lee, Perryman etc etc. The list goes on. Stupid argument, NC to beat HD by at least 10 goals!!!

At last ;)

Your getting carried away with naming Lee (Past he's best) and Perryman (Crippled and has never been the same)

Here's how sportsbet saw it.

Birchip - Having heard no absolute certainties to leave yet (a lot of speculation) they would be in a similar position to last year and one more year experienced

Charlton - my tip for the only top 4 of 2006 to improve (slightly). Walklate will be like a new recruit but Andrews is getting frail which is why they aren't flag fav's

Boort - a few key signings in weeks to come may just show why there is early money coming in from the northern oasis.

St Arnaud - Don't believe they have picked up any match winners. solid youthful list but lack experience and quality. WIll improve in 07

W'burn - my smokey. caused trouble for some sides in the 4 last year and have only lost 2 players, (and they were crap anyway) have signed some quality players already!

Donald - Have lost 11 premiership players. don't care what people say 11 is massive. they're next 11 best are not as good as the other teams 11 best from 2006 and wont be in 2007.

Wyche - no real recruiting talks coming out of the proof and no real reason to get excited let alone risk money on their performance.

Note: odds do get distorted by locals support. The more confident the locals are the more money they have on them, which brings the odds down.

Happy punting!

Re: North Central Football League

3 cheers for smasher for his first post that the whole thread agrees with. hip hip... hooray. hip hip... hooray. hip hip.... hooray.

welcome the the otherside smasher :D
Aawwww that's a little harsh.

I can remember awhile back when people were saying Lance was the best player in the league and I did not agree! I'd say i'm correct on this one too.

Andrews by a country mile.

Re: North Central Football League

Nice one smasher my man! I knew you'd come through eventually!

Its always a hard question to compare leagues as most posters are either players or followers and we really dont get much of a chance to see other leagues. Your always gonna be bias to your league. Just enjoy the footy boys, we're all out there to have fun and perhaps drink from the cup at the end of the season!

You've obviously come to the wrong thread for this argument. But I'll gladly take your points on board. As i said, havent seen enough HDFL footy to make a fully-informed opinion, but knowing the top players running around out there, there's plenty in the NCFL who would match/better them.

18 onballers !!! anyone would think theres a lack of quality forwards or backmen in your comp!! why is bish from wychy regarded so highly..please can someone tell me... have seen him play and would be nothing but a b grade back pocket in a better team...and or comp!

Fair question. Does ok for his size but is far too small to be damaging. Certainly wouldnt class him amongst the better players in the comp.

Well the best people to judge him would be the one's who play with or against him, so Patty, Ablett and Bend_it what do you think?

No offence to the kid but definitely not to be classed as one of the top 30 in the league..... IMO

no way....i would find it hard to slot him into the boort or donalds sides of last year...who's spot would he take!! maybe boorts, but definately donald...there depth won them the flag!

Re: North Central Football League

while i respect both abletts and smashers comments, i think that in some regard you are of the mark by a wee little bit. first of all smasher to comment that most players in the heathcote league are bendigo discards is incorrect. plenty of quality senior players have made there way out to the heathcote league, the last couple of years. dont know how long since you got out of boort ablett but to say your blokes would beat the heathcote league by 10 goals is a bit of rubbish. i mean why do you bother with this arguement anyway. if you call yourselves a major league, as a few of you point to. and you have such great players in your comp. why on earth do you need to join mallee to form an interleague side???

You tell us. I think we'd do alot better without them.

Serious? Not sure who played in there Grand Final side but if Trollope, Adams, Allan or Hawkes were in there you may have to take your statement back.

Patty, would love to hear your view on this? I'm presuming you played on him in the midfield against Wyche at some point in time

not sure of donald players names, but i know that i'd rather have that little bish playing on me than the donald guys i saw running on and off the bench grand final day!!! no weak lincs!!
