Rugby Union International Results at the weekend

England 31 - 28 New Zealand
Ireland 18 - 9 Australia
France 30 - 10 South Africa

Big congrats to Ireland for its first victory over Australia in 23 yrs. England as well, their first over NZ in 10 years. France also posted its biggest winning margin against the boks over the weekend.

You have to take these results in context, we were all playing at home & the southern boys were coming off along hard season but the theme that run through all of these games is of being beaten up front.

England dominated the All Black forwards but they produced some really incisive back play in what was a great game.Accdording to most of our press the ABs come out of the match with the moral victory but for me a win is a win but there's a lot for us to learn from them in terms of runners coming from deep.

The Lomu factor is still there, even our 6 foot 3 inch 19 1/2 stone prop got run over by him.

The Aussies just don't seem to fancy playing wet weather rugby so it's just as well the next WC is over there.

France are starting to look a real threat for the WC, they don't seem to fear any side & with the exception of Argentina they can smash any side in the scrum.Scrummaging seemed to have died a few years ago but there's signs up here that teams are starting to use it as a weapon again, although someone needs to tell the Aussies.

I would dispute that the Southern teams are coming off a long hard season.

The season before the last Lions tour almost all of the party had played at least 30 matches (any who played less had been injured and a good few, including key men like Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson had played over 40. If this was put in front of the Australian media they knocked it back as 'whinging' (hey, they should know about whinging).

How many have these tourists played over a similar period? Maybe 24 or 25 max.

Wilkinson would consider that to be part time playing.

Well irrespctive of how many games have been played it's still the end of their season & it's fair to say they have less reason to be as sharp as us which is the case when we go over there.Let's be fair until we can go over there off season & regularly win or lose as closely as they have to us in the last two weeks we can't really crow to much.

When you mention games played I think you're referring more to the Aussies who play Super 12 & not a lot else apart from internationals. When you're talking about the New Zealand players they go from Tri Nations to Super 12 & then they play the NPC in NZ which they take as seriously as we take the Premiership(if not more) they play as many games as us, especially as now there are limits for England players anyway (is it about 30 odd games a year?).
