I thought the French Sports Minister said last week that unvaccinated players could compete and Novak was welcomed.
Craig Tiley really does have a lot to answer for, at the end of the day he found a loophole for Novak to expose when he knew that unvaccinated players were not welcome.
If player gets booted out of country is it really a loophole? 🤭

Maybe it was Tiley in disguise

Perhaps other politicians had a different view to the Sports Minister?

More woe for Novak Djokovic in the wake of his Australian visa blow as he now faces being banned from the FRENCH OPEN in May... after the country's politicians voted through new rules banning the unvaccinated from ALL sports arenas

France's lower house voted by 215 to 58 to give final approval to a vaccine pass that will exclude the unvaccinated from restaurants, sports arenas and other venues. It will apply to everybody over the age of 16 and the law will take effect shortly. Stanislas Guerin, who represents the 17th and 18th arrondissements in Paris, said: 'Djokovic's behaviour was irresponsible. Australia is a sovereign country which makes it rules and the rules should be respected. 'We can't have two weights and two measures regarding the Covid Pass. If you are called Djoko, Nadal or Mr Whoever, you respect the rules. 'All the big events which will take place in France will adopt the Covid Pass. Who would understand if we asked our citizens to make an effort and respect the rules and we then authorised some to get out of them?'

If other countries adopt the hardline border stance that Australia has, I wonder how many ATP events Djokovic will be eligible to play this year. He may even consider retirement. He certainly doesn't need the money or sponsorship anymore.

To retire as the top ranked player in the game - which he may still be after the AO - would be almost unprecedented in world sport. It would also leave an asterix next to the question of who is the GOAT. As unlikable as he is to many, that would be a gutsy decision.

Here's the story in a real newspaper

As long as he can squeeze in one more grand slam tournament within the next 5 yrs.. that should just be enough to get him to 21 I reckon and that re. Nadal and the Fed Express Train are finished mate.. that's it mate.
Personally think Rafa has got at least one more French in him. If he gets this Oz (which its a pretty wide open race now) Rafa might get 22 or even 23 if he drags out for one more french next year.

Novak is only younger by a year and his gameplay is pretty physically taxing plus the next gen are starting to close the gap.

2-3 years ago i thought Novak would wind up with 24-25 and be an absolute breeze for the most ever, now im not as convinced, he likely still gets there but he could also fall off a cliff with even one injury.

You'd imagine Rafa is a massive chance for 2022 French if Novak doesn't get vaccinated.

Unfortunately there's currently no laws in the UK that force elite sportspeople to be vaccinated. So he would be able to play Wimbledown unvaccinated.

France have recently passed laws that elite sportspeople must be fully vaccinated so that's out of the question.

US Open - not sure what the laws are over there as it varies greatly from state to state.

Many other ATP events will require full vaccination. Maybe he will retire.
Indeed. The chances of him playing in France have just been reduced
He really needs to engage his brain and get vaccinated.

That's the big question now....does he stick to his guns because of his so called principles or does he cave in so he can continue his career?

It's either a no-win or a win-win depending on how you look at it.

Couldn’t happen to a more appropriate person ….**** him

He's never going to get vaccinated. He and his family are complete right-wing anti-science nut jobs.
They're all complete whack jobs like Craig Kelly.
Completely crazed fruit loops.

IF he doesn't change his attitude he won't become the biggest holder of men grand slam titles.
Rafa would have at least two more grand slams in him and perhaps even Federer could manage one more Wimbledon with a bit of luck if he can stay injury free.

I think Nadal can win another slam but not Federer.

With the UK government under Johnson in meltdown with it's parties at 10 Downing street i wouldn't be surprised if they found a way to stop unvaccinated people entering the country including sports people if they thought it would be popular with a majority of UK citizens as a way to try and make them selves less unpopular, which in turn would keep out Djokovic of Wimbledon and if that was the case i can't see Djokovic playing any grand slams this year.
