So HOW DID he come up !

Just responded to this.
Team Franklin? He's the biggest name retired player this year.

What's up with him? No cavalcade on GF day either

Why are YOU filling the thread with non academy questions?
Why not just let it pass? That puts an end to it instead of back & forth stuff like this.

Futures game watch reminder

Looking at 4 in white (Joe Harrison)

3 and 14 in white (Mitchell Woods and Joel Cochran respectively)

Harrison and Woods likely in the guts/flanks with Cochran KPD post

Joe Harrison looks good around the stoppage, managed a snap from the contest.

Cochran had one or two good points. Looked to have a very nice releasing kick from D50 for a scoring chain and rucked in defense.

Woods has not had a disposal, does hunt the contest and has a few tackles (kinda expected)

Others

Hotton looks good as does Gross

2qtr

Harrison had a few nice things defensively, but not as impactful as the first

Cochran up fwd for the qtr, decent ruck contest against Perry (big boy). Threaded a goal and nice snap.

Woods popped up a few times. Had a shot that dropped short. Sent an absolute bullet into the f50 on the run. Looks rusty, which he is.

Other players:

Gross looks really lively as a fwd
Lombard (GC) is a smooth mover. Will go first round
Hotton with 13 disposal
Smilie looks very, very good around the ground.

Scores:

Selwood 5.6 36
Nicnat 4.9 33

From memory

Selwood
2 Kako, 2 Faull, unsure on 5th

Nicnat
2 Gross, Cochran, Mentha

Skills are pretty good. Pity there is only a smattering of fans watching at the ground.

(loved watching the goal umps wave the flags at the scoreboard to confirm the scores. Such a great tradition and that it continues makes me grin)

3qtr
Harrison parked up forward in this qtr. Seen but not particularly effective in that role

Cochran starting to get more involved, goal from a free and contesting/providing a contest.

Woods, largely there for pressure but I think he had maybe 1 disposal

Scores:
Selwood 6.10 46
Nicnat 8.10 58

Goals

Selwood:
Ashcroft

Nicnat:
King, Smith, Cochran, Shadforth

4qtr

Harrison - Did not see a heap of him this qtr. Looked to be rested up fwd and rotated off
Edit: will not show up on stats but Harrison is a hard runner and combative in contest. Second and third efforts

Cochran - some nice connecting play through the midfield but not as much of a threat or target in the third

Woods - played in the middle and he plays exactly like Papley when in the middle

Player who caught the eye

Moraes looked great all game
Smilie looked good off the flanks out of his natural position

Scores

Selwood 10.11 71
Nicnat 10.14 74

Disposals

Nicnat
B Camporele 30
Draper 24
Lombard24

Selwood
Ashcroft 26
Osullivan 21
Lindsay 20

Goals scores q4:

Nicnat: Johnson, Marshall
Selwood: 2 Murphy, Welsh, Hargrave

BOG: Ben Camporeale

Cochran sounds like what we need, and would be great if he can grow to around 198cm to take on the monstor tall forwards that sometimes get on top of us due to their height.

Must say though in all honesty I don't know much about Woods though.

Played ok today. Typical skinny string bean of a kid who looks like he needs a feed five times a day.

Thought our other two lads had decent cameos from what I saw..

Back in the 90s I remember watching a tallish kid built like a rake slot 6 in the equivalent game but for draft eligible kids.He played a thrilling game. I have never been so delighted on draft when we called his name out.

Cochran is the one I'm most bullish about - finally a KP player from the Academy! Harrison is also a very good player, and presumably will keep getting better over the next few months into the 2024 season.

I really hope we fight for Woods. If he chooses AFL, and he dedicates all of his time into it, he could be anything.

Yep.

The three kids look good prospects.

Hope we offer to organise scholarships for the three, if we have not done so already. Both QLD Academies have done this.
