the day you stop lookig for that new buzz , they day you stare at your collection and say " I can`t be bothered " throw some Cure and Oils into the stereo , spiced up with some Master of puppets and some Joy Division , hit the " random button " and not touch them for 6 months ....... that is the day you give up and start sliding meekly into the oblivion that is middle age .

Stay constant , stay fresh .

From the 30`s blues up until today , there is good music everywhere ..... you`ve just gotta find it

Easier said than done. All of us get to an age where the new stuff just doesn't grab us. Only a fool would pretend they like stuff just to make themselves feel young and hip.

I like old music better - as in I think the quality is better - or more to the point there are more qualkity old artists/bands than new ones. Problem is, how many times can you listen to this stuff?

I have 300+ CDs and hardly ever listen to them anymore. I really rate a lot of it, it's just boring. It's rare that I find new stuff I like - and it's been like that for 15 years and slowly getting getting harder.

I have a six stacker in my car so will generally try to put 2 new CDs, 1 old, 2 olds that contain only 1 song I like, and maybe a classical to keep me relaxed and inside my car at traffic lights. Very theraputic for myself and other tossers who can't drive.

It's not that I don't like new music, it's just I find most is ho hum. MMM have been playing shyte for years - I like but don't want to hear stairway or rhapsody etc, I despise adult contempory such as Matchbox 20 and Creed, and lately they've been playing shyte like Missy Higgins and Wild Thing from 1990. JJJ has some bad-ok-good stuff, but it just doesn't grab me like Led Zeppelin did in 1985, or like Pearl Jam when I first heard them, or AC/DC in 1980 etc.

One day we all wake up and realise that new music no longer grabs us like the music we listened to in our teens and early-mid twenties.

I guess it all comes down to what you would consider "old music".

How long out of the charts is considered to be old?

I like both, eg: I have alot of music from the 70's, 80's, 90's including New Order / Joy Division, U2, AC/DC, Kiss, The oils to name a few, and couldn't wait to grab a copy of U2's latest HTDAAB and am looking forward to New Order's newie next month "Waiting For The Sirens Call", I'm also getting into The Killers new album Hot Fuss.

I am hoping that you are not directing that assumption at myself ? ( Direct Question )

Do all you people remember your parents asking you when you were teenagers " What is that rubbish your listening to ?, it`s not even music "

And we would fire back " You don`t understand , your just old " .... i choose to not go down that path .

There is good music being made today , but i will admit that you have to dig a little harder to find it . But , if you are tired of digging , then that is your perogative

yes and no. What's the point of staying fresh if you don't actually like anything? That's not saying I only listen to old music either. I listen to much new stuff, and often prefer to listen to it than old stuff simply because I can only listen to the old (and in my eyes superior) stuff so many times.

I also prefer to be aware of what music is currently going around - it's not hard to do a quick channel flick in the car. But in saying that I don't have a problem with people who get stuck in a musical timewarp. You like what you like. Music isn't about trend that many youngsters seem to think it is.

Listening and liking are two differnt things. I'm about 50/50 I what I prefer listening too, but like older music a lot more.

Not my parents in particular, but parents in general, yes.

Although some of the stuff these days is pretty shameful I don't think there's any benefit in telling your own kids this.

And we would fire back " You don`t understand , your just old " .... i choose to not go down that path .
Neither do I. But it isn't just the parents who don't understand. Kids haven't been around long enough to recognise patterns that intelligent parents can. Marketing ploys, image, inferior copying etc.

I agree. I'm not tired of digging. I still dig. I just don't come up with as much as I used to and this has been diminishing for 15 years now.

Well , i can assure you i am not " faking it " . Recently attened shows of System of a down , The Hives and Blues Explosion will attest to that .

Very good point . It sickens me the whole " The Movie , which sells the song , which sells the soft drink , which sells the ring tone " concept .

In days of yore music by and large ( there are always exceptions ) was generally made for musics sake but you only have to flick on video hits on a saturday morning these days to see the motives behind a lot of it .

I have been a fan of U2 since the very early 80`s and have always had full respect for everything they have done , but when "Vertigo" was being used on the Intel add even before the album was released you had to ask questions . It was almost as though they had sat down and written that song for that company and were going to cash in and stick it on the album as well just to maximise the exposure of both themselves and the computer company . It just feels as though we are constantly being manipulated . What better way to get exposure than to hear that song 4-5 times an hour on prime time telly .

For mine the it smacked of whoredom , and lacked integrity

Get rid of eminem and then this world would almost be rap free :D

I only like Scribe - Dreaming. oh and probably a couple more but thats one of the top of my head

Get rid of eminem and it would be almost an EMINEM free world, not rap.

Scribe is Hip Hop.

same thing idiot, hip hop isnt a genre, its the culture that includes rap, djing, graffiti art and breakdancing.

scribe is rap

this question always comes up and people come back with the same answer.

'old, some new stuff is alright but there is heaps of crap music'

there was heaps of crap music back then aswell, but it worked out perfectly because no one remembers the bad stuff

I just boycott mainstream radio and crap shows like Video Hits-still great music out there, but mainstream pigs don't want a bar of that-bling bling
bling.

The world is slowly dying from cheapness and greed.

The biggest report from the Australian Mtv awards was the size of Anna Nicole 's breasts ,not the music.

I still mostly live in my capsule of music from 67-76.

We all have to suck Satans ******** to get anywhere in this world from time to time. :D

a good song is a good song, no matter the genre. however commercial and chart material these days is trash. give me classic, heavy or prog rock anyday. i have always believed you cannot beat the beatles if you want to listen to quality music.
