Players can get nominated more than once, but there is a rule that says they can't get nominated twice in the same year.
The rule only applies if it’s in different season and the player is still eligable(eg Henry because he did not play more than 10 games last year)There is no rule that states one nomination per player and it's not a participation award.
Well if that is now the case then I was wrong . . .The rule only applies if it’s in different season and the player is still eligable(eg Henry because he did not play more than 10 games last year)
What possible purpose would it serve for players being able to be nominated twice in a year?Well if that is now the case then I was wrong . . .
It IS a participation award because the best young player onfield is barred from nomination.
It was always the case. This is the 30th year of the Rising Star award, and 17 players have been nominated twice, but nobody can get a second nomination in the one year. I love this award, and think the rules are fine just the way they are. There's 230 players currently on AFL lists who have been nominated, so a fair percentage of the competition's players do end up with one. I'll be disappointed if our boy doesn't get it this week, as I think he's done enough lately to warrant it. At the end of the year I suspect Newcombe will win the award, but I fully expect Nick Daicos to go on and have the best career out of any of the nominees. He is a very special player!Well if that is now the case then I was wrong . . .

Nevertheless it's still and always will be relegated to a participation event in my books now - like kids who finish last in a school carnival race getting a participation ribbon. It was always the case. He did it again today!Marking in front of the pack coming from the side was the highlight for me as well.
Reminds me of something a certain Richmond No 4 from the late 60s and early 70s made it into an art form.
If he can emulate it would be fantastic.
You make me dizzy, have a restNevertheless it's still and always will be relegated to a participation event in my books now - like kids who finish last in a school carnival race getting a participation ribbon.
I think Macdonald will get it. He was good. Ollie will get it soon.I think he should get it this week. That's three games in a row where he's had a big influence on the final result, and given that he's now getting plenty of publicity it's about time he was rewarded. As there were only six games this round he shouldn't have too many rivals for the nomination, with the Swans Logan McDonald (who's had a couple of decent games lately) perhaps the main threat.
The kid is certainly going to be a gem - if we can somehow wrangle a genuine KPF it will make Ollie a hugely dangerous threat to the opposition.I think Macdonald will get it. He was good. Ollie will get it soon.
I think you're missing the point. Being nominated isn't the award. Being nominated gets your name on the list of people who can win the award. Being nominated twice would be like a politician having their name on the electoral role twice.Nevertheless it's still and always will be relegated to a participation event in my books now - like kids who finish last in a school carnival race getting a participation ribbon.
You do mean McDonald of the Swans, don't you sr, not Hawthorn's Macdonald?! I think the Swans' chap will be a fair chance, as he's had a couple of decent games, and obviously he played an important part in their win over a top opponent in Melbourne, but Henry has helped us win three games in a row now, with some big performances against high flying Fremantle and Carlton.I think Macdonald will get it. He was good. Ollie will get it soon.
Yep, I meant Logan. I thought they nominated based on individual games? And I thought his game probably pipped Ollie, who I thought was having a dirty one until those clunks in the last. But yes if they're looking at the body of work it should be Ollie. You do mean McDonald of the Swans, don't you sr, not Hawthorn's MacDonald?! The best rising star level player in every match is . . . . the best rising star level player in every match.
Regardless of eligibility.
Therefore that automatically reduces it to a participation event BECAUSE previous nominees are ineligible.
Even if people don't agree with the Lloyd comparison I don't think too many folks anywhere would be likely to "flame" you for that. Everybody should be able to see young Ollie has tremendous ability, and the potential to go on and be an outstanding player.Don’t flame me, but can anyone see some Lloyd in him? Lloyd much stronger at his peak, but Henry has a tonne of development left in him. Henry loves a pack mark coming from the side, whereas Lloyd went in straight lines generally, but despite this I see some similarities.
Obviously he has a long way to go, but give this kid 2 years and then let’s revisit this post.
Love this kid…

Not for the salary cap.Isn‘t that a good thing MJ?
Besides Pendles and De Goey………..Henry and Nick Daicos are our most talented players.
They all will be paid accordingly………and so they should be.
I think you might have overdosed on your Viagra tonight mateLook ant no argument that we have something very special on our hands with Ollie - I love the kid and his attitude.
But for a player in his rookie year to amass 36 handballs with almost 700 mtrs gained in a single game - THAT is simply superb.
He really is the top possibility for a nom this round in the team without a shadow of doubt.
You are STILL missing my point. They're nominees for an award that is decided at the end of the year. The weekly nomination is nice recognition, but it's not an award. And it probably mainly exists to increase exposure for the award and thus sponsorship dollars.
