My biggest knock on Chris Scott is a simple one (despite his arrogant personality). A major role of any coach, be it under 9 table tennis to elite level sport, is to improve an individual player’s skill level and individual performance in a game. I haven’t seen that under his stewardship and he’s had a few younger players on his list for a few years now. Players haven’t come on and he’s relied on Bomber Thompson’s development or imported talent (which often hasn’t kicked on further under his guidance anyway). It’s a huge indictment that an elite level coach can’t improve players.

Emergency umpires are still considered to be "officiating" umpires. What if the shoe was on the other foot and there was an off the ball incident which was missed by the 3 umpires but was right in front of the emergency umpire and he couldn't do anything? We would be livid. It makes total sense.

Don't blame the umpire. He is doing his job. Blame Selwood who should have known better. He is the true idiot.
Selwood is an idiot no doubt based on the footage shown 2hich I havent seen the lead up to. But how often does the emergency umpire see free kicks that they don't pay ? Geelong were some what in the game and their player was lining up for what you would expect most afl footballers to kick.
Pretty opportunistic time to be commencing a seemingly new procedure / interpretation.

Karma Bus for all those dodgy free kicks at Kardinia Park to get Geelong back in the game!

Can't argue that it may have been over the top but my point was that emergency umpires are well able to pay a free when they see fit. That has been around for ages. It probably doesn't happen that often cause confrontation between players coming off the ground near interchange when the ball is inside 50 is rare.

Stay classy Cats fans, one actually wrote on Twitter " will be good for Melb fans to hear Neale Daniher slur the words to the song one last time I guess"
Wtf is wrong with some people. Just about the worst thing I have read and makes me glad I don't have Twitter
Wow that is absolutely disgusting!

Cats fans are the worst.

I agree. Although I thought they struggled to keep it up at times obviously. I’m also very interested to see how they back up next week.
Yep.

Melbourne will be interesting to watch this finals series.

I am thankful we won’t come up against them until the Grand Final, if both teams make it, though tbh. :D

Will be interesting to see how Melbourne go against Hawthorn/West Coast/Collingwood.

I reckon they’ll get past Hawthorn, but I reckon both Collingwood and West Coast have the games to go with them, if Melbourne make it to the Preliminaries it’ll be a great game to watch.

This is a very interesting point. With clubs now having such a massive football department is the role of a coach now just to win AFL games with the development side handled by others? I think that's where we are now. I don't think Dimma has much to do with skill level.

TV off as BT is roaming around like a whore on king st.
Yep it's as classy as watching a Meth addled Grey St hooker touting for BJ's on a chilly winters night. . Except I think the gals on Grey St have a little more dignity about themselves than Brian

A senior coach should be involved - he has done the development pathway himself as an assistant so should have the skills, and he should be on the same page as the development coach and add his expertise to ensure the player isn’t getting poor advice. A lot of “development” coaches are newer to the system and need guidance from the senior coach too. The senior coach should also be monitoring his players for improvement and change his development coaches if he can’t see improvement. He has to oversee the whole program and be responsible for it working. If you see training footage of Hawthorn especially, Clako is often there one on one with a player gesturing and explaining - ie individual coaching. To me he is the benchmark of this, but Dimma is doing a sensational job too. Once he’s had the players he’s wanted, they have, across the board, improved individually to work his system. He deserves huge credit for it.

This first week of finals four teams have been served up byes.
Richmond getting Hawks was like a JLT game after quarter time.
Melbourne were always going to wipe Geelong providing they didn’t beat themselves, but after losing Hogan they suddenly beat two top eight sides. The signs have been there all year like us last year where we threw games early on and then a couple of blokes came in late season to turn the tide and the chemistry all changed.
I’m looking forward to the Prelim in Melbourne and WCE in two weeks time.
WCE will eat the overrated Pies today and Sydney will beat an injury riddled GWS , but will go nowhere.
What has gone from a two horse race has now been extended to a three horse one, but in the end it will be Richmond v the winner of the WCE V Dees game. WCE have the Talls to stretch our defence with a solid BL and Melbourne have a spread of young talent all over the park. I still think their BL is brittle and we need to hit the scoreboard with a better percentage on entries. With their midfield we may not be gifted as many entries as Hawthorn gave us. The home and away games get thrown out of the window when finals come , just as the Cats have found out in the last two seasons.
If I wanted to play a team out of the two it would be Melbourne only bc of their inexperience and weaker defence and also bc they would needed to have played an extra final to get there.
The Eagles are a weapon with their marking power and physical size and this has been a worry for us all season. If we play them then get the drums beating and start doing a rain dance on GF day .

Carlton would be mad to pick up Menzel. He's awful.
Think after his missed shot 15mtrs out and or not handballing over the top to his teamate in the square.Fair chance that was his last game for the cats IMO.
