If the Dogs get lucky they might get 17 and a pick upgrade of 38 (or F2) for Smith + 48 (or F3).

While we hate him Mackie stood firm with his offer on the OOC Henry and he'll look to use the same playbook again. 17 might be it.

Pick 17 and 38 (or WB 35) could be used to see if they can push up the order.

They can’t really. But if he nominates for the national draft, Geelong can probably pick him up with that same pick #17. Much like we did with Luke Ball.

Sorry disagree with that. PSD isn’t where they’d take him it’s the national draft. If National draft as Dogs have no pick before Cats the cats could take him at pick 17 is what they are saying. Risks a bunch of other clubs getting him as well.
If as you suggest PSD then every side has a pick as per their ladder position at the end of the season. This is even worst for the Cats as it brings them back in and sides like the Pies. All they have to do is meet his contract demand which is then open info for all.

The biggest reason why the Cats won’t want to take him through any draft is that they have always been a club to get the deal done. Doing this would wreak future trading.

For the Dogs it’s more them saying yeah don’t do the deal and bring him through the draft . It’s a loose loose but they then Enforce their message to all clubs be fair or take the risk. That surely would have to play on player managers minds in the future.

I believe the deal gets done. Probably 17 and a F2.
