I have a good feeling about the Hawks’ new Rookie Jack Gunston. I believe he’ll end up playing 200 plus games and even be a Premiership player by the end of his career at Hawthorn.

I think that joke falls a bit flat, since (despite what we heard would happen back when he was delisted) he wasn't picked up in the Rookie Draft, but in the Pre-Season Draft! So he's on the Hawks primary/senior list again, not the rookie list!

bizarre. Whats the point of delisting him if they were just putting him back on the senior list?

Did Hawks use all their selections in the draft? Could they have just delisted him & planned to take him as a rookie if they didn't have any senior spots left..but it ended up that they didn't need to?

Just found this :

Hawthorn has re-drafted Jack Gunston in Friday's AFL pre-season draft. The club had previously committed to re-drafting the 33-year-old after being delisted last month to ensure Hawthorn operated within the league's rules of its utilisation of picks in the national draft. 7 hours ago

Ah.
Makes sense, given they only select 2 players in the ND. Maybe they didn't have anymore picks.

👍 even better. He’s already made an AFL List 😬

Too old, short hair, doesn’t poke his tongue out when he kicks a goal. Probably not even on TikTok. Won’t fit in.

The AFL needs to do away with the category a rookie list and rookie draft. Simply have a bigger senior list and sliding contract length/salary across the national draft. Effectively the 4th or 5th round would become the new rookie draft.

Having a knee in the shape of a late-30’s-to-40-year-old is not a big deal. Most people of that age have perfectly healthy knees.

I’m surprised most AFL footballers don’t have the knees of “late 30-to-40 year olds”. It’s not as if your average late 30 to 40 year old spends their twenties subjecting their knees continually to a stop/start/change-of-direction sport.
