It depends on your generation.
I have no hatred for them. I grew up post the thuggery and never having heard of Greening. I barracked for them against every team except us due to Plugger, Winmar and Stewie Loewe.

It is unacceptable to be a Collingwood fan of any generation and not to have heard of John Greening.
The saga of John Greening is a historic act of criminality which should be burned into the soul of every generation of Magpie fans.
Their fans are rabid so that dries up any empathy I might have for their lack of success. They also broke my heart when they ended Greening's career and almost killed him with not the smallest sign of regret or apology. I saw John Greenings comeback game a couple of years later against the Tigers, but he was a shell of the player he had been and soon retired permanently.
Here's a glimpse of the boy and what we lost that day he was bashed.

True but I’m of the older generation but not especially hung up on the Greening thing. I don’t really know why I hate them so much but the late 2000s era with some detestable players and staff at the time have a lot to do with it.

Greening was a tragedy in a long list of Collingwood tragedies. I think it’s what makes us Pies fans especially fanatical and loyal to the club. We’ve been through hell and back too many times.
