Got a simple solution to salvage the next 2-3 years before the inevitable cliff comes. Hire the following additional coaches outside the soft cap: 1) reputable skills coach, 2) tackling coach, 3) set shot coach, 4) freakish goalkicking coach a la Stevie J!
1) Our skills are basically putrid apart from a handful of players. 2) Our tackles are repeatedly broken or the opponent still gets away an effective disposal or we take them too high giving a free kick. 3) Our set shots are pretty poor and very rarely would anyone feel confident when a player lines up, also Cumberlands crab walk looks pathetic when he misses, was tolerable when they were going through the big sticks but realistically is a laughing stock. 4) With the exception of Dusty and Bolton occasionally our banana's, snaps and dribble shots are overall pretty poor. Shai could've won the Coleman last year if he was more reliable.
Here's the thing people's effectively since we managed to claw our way out of debt the league has become a welfare state. The more money you make the more the AFL siphons away to give to the clubs. This equalisation can be manipulated so that OUR earnings can actually benefit the club.
Eg: if this year the club makes $4,000,000 in profit the club in effect only gets to keep say $2,500,000 (not exact as like the FA compensation nothing is bloody transparent in this league) the rest goes into the coffers to be divided amongst the clubs. The following year when the AFL divvies up the spoils the big clubs like us, WCE, Magpies, Hawks get say $10,000,000 whilst the clubs get $12- $14,000,000 for this commie equalisation bull.
So why not salary sacrifice/ negative gear $1,000,000 into extra coaching pay the $1,000,000 tax/fine. The club's balance sheet ends up $2,000,000 less but the development of the players goes through the roof. So instead of losing that $2,000,000 to equalise the other clubs the $2,000,000 was actually purely for the benefit of the club/ players plus the fine but so what the AFL steals that profit off us anyway for zero benefit of Punt Rd. Being $2,000,000 lighter on the balance sheet means we will actually be paid more from the AFL's kitty to equalise, so we'll benefit from the kitty instead of always losing and paying in.
As the great man Kerry Packer said it's unAustralian to not wanna pay less tax. Especially when you see how the rabble blow our money. In effect the Hawks, us, Pies and WCE are paying Clarkos ridiculous salary cos those methhead shinboners have never actually turned a profit.
