Pretty sure it was all meant to just be a bit of fun, they are allowed to have fun, aren’t they?
Yes they are. I acknowledged the light-hearted nature of the content.

But whether you like it or not optics are everything, surely just send out a group msg saying boys be sure to include winning a flag on your list somewhere along with your other stuff.

They’re getting absolutely reamed in the comments on this post and I’m totally here for it. I realise it’s tongue in cheek New Years fluff content but how dumb do you have to be to not have more than one player saying they want to win the flag 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

lol extremely on-brand for Port nowadays, social media or otherwise

On the official site when there’s big fan unrest about how winning a flag seems a low priority at the club?

I’m not sure that’s really a ‘fun’ thing.

Seems to me like a tone deaf thing, which is on brand.

Do you reckon for ‘fun’ they could have asked almost any question other than what your priorities for the next year are? Especially when only the new guy says ‘flag’?

I understand what you’re saying, but it’s a universal thing on New Year’s Day for people to come up with resolutions (they’re not necessarily priorities), and they’re often just fun things. I just think sometimes posters here pick things to get angry about that don’t really warrant it. That’s just me.

This one does as it’s exactly what everyone has suspected and been complaining about.

The club's social media pages only appeal to room IQ midwits who watch whatever McGarbage is forced on them by Netflix and Disney. Coincidentally that the exact same type of genius who runs the socials.

It's akin to joking about 'killing it' after getting off for murder. Im sure it's all part of the 'humble' stuff they preach at the club. Don't want to be coming off like they're full of themselves thinking they're in the mix. Personally, I think 'humble' is for those who have achieved ultimate success, the rest should be hungry.

Its more than a bit tone deaf to have the players not say 'win the flag'. Because as soon as one bloke says it it makes the rest seem (as some suspect) like it's not a priority. At the end of the day, I don't give a shit about the 'optics'. Unfortunately, the constant is still in place and until they prove otherwise on the field it doesn't matter how it looks for good or ill.

All the ****ing football department of this club does is have fun.

You know what's fun? The celebrations after winning a flag.

It's the optics of a club that is without doubt the biggest underachievers of the entire reign of the coach/president. If we shit it might fly with no expectation of winning a flag. If we had recent flag success then it would fly. Unfortunately winning a flag is totally within our reach but nobody wants to just go that extra step.

Isn't it like a running joke in the entire ****ing world that New Years Resolutions are things that people continually fail to fulfill?

So why would anyone want them saying "Win a Premiership" as a New Years Resolution...
It would be nice to try

This was always destined for failure, they take the piss like they have and “we aren’t serious” is bandied about, “win a premiership” and “another resolution to fail” or Hinkley ridicule to have peddled. Just wonder who makes these wise decisions…

Yes the club should just never post anything to show that the players are humans with interests and personalities.

This entire thread is the biggest load of Old Man yelling at clouds.

The marketing department have one of the hardest jobs in footy. The perennial cellar dwellers can focus on micro improvements, new coaches and players etc. The string teams with recent history have licence to joke around. The new teams need to win a new audience. For us, our marketing has to deal with having some of the best young talent in the competition, get people's hopes up each year, and working against the almost certainty that we will fail when it counts. They roll out the epitome of the hype cycle and have no other lanes to change to.

Why not just post interviews and clips like they once did? Sometimes Media and Marketing overthink the assignment and need to justify their employment. There are plenty of Athletes around the world running their own podcasts if the club is so hellbent on the players showing their personalities. With Roaming Brian and Social Media being the platform it is, there are plenty of outlets, remembering we are a Football Club first and foremost, our core business is Football, not social engagement…

I see they have done the same New Years Resolution question with a few of our girls as well, not a single one of them mentioned winning a flag either. Disgraceful.
See what I posted early about expectations.

The girls team is currently in the sweet zone of having credits in the bank after the last season.

The aim of marketing is to engage and make things happy.

Not to enrage and make things crappy.

Marketing isn't JUST about 'fun' for ****s sake, it is about messaging and sales.

This isn't a private account. It is a big franchise in a billion-dollar industry.

yeah it's a football club, they're supposed to deliver content about the footy, they should be saying stuff like "kick 40 goals" "get 20 disposals a game" etc. but we're so lost in this soft feel good world that we think it's OK that Lachie Jones just can't stop spending money on cars lol!!!!
