Action packed start to the 2024 Olympics, and Australia had a great day and sits atop the medal tally. A gold to cyclist Grace Brown in the womens time trial as she blitzed the field, and then gold to Ariarne Titmus and the women’s 4x100 freestyle relay team, our 4th consecutive gold in that event.
The Kookaburras had a tense 1-0 win over Argentina and the Boomers handled 2nd ranked Spain. The Stingers also had an opening win, and Jess Fox qualified first in the heats of the K1 and is through to tonights SF and hopefully final. Some noticeable results yesterday, Germany upsetting 2nd ranked Japan in mens volleyball, host nation France beating Fiji in the mens rugby 7’s final, and Nadal/Alcaraz beating the sixth seeds, in which feels like a fairytale story waiting to be written.
Day 2 preview:
Sleep already suffering, only going to get worse. Note to self: ensure alarms are set for am and not pm. Anyway, our medal tally will probably stagnate a little compared to the cracking start we had on the opening day. All eyes will be on Jess Fox as she aims for a second Olympic gold. She qualified fastest and starts last in the semis. Matildas will be looking to get on track, womens rugby 7’s start their campaign, and the mens tennis team all hit the court.
First event of the day is Badminton at 4:30pm, and women’s volleyball competition starts at 5pm with Italy vs Dominican Republic. The skateboarding which was schedule for today has been postponed.
