It probably makes sense why Titmus swam hard was really red im the face and back and why she was 2 seconds slower than her WR when was still on track at 250m

That was more than 11 seconds behind his PB.

This is sack your coach stuff for Short, my only guess is they have got the taper all wrong and he is underdone for the games.

Probably nothing to do with his taper. Clearly still ill as I said earlier. If he's made a mistake I wouldn't be surprised if he's tried to get back into hard training too soon after being ill and it's hampered his recovery.

Mate he had gastro 6 weeks ago, I think you are overstating it.

I wasn't very confident of Short doing well at these games.

He was crook 6 weeks before the games at the Oz trials and he hasn't done anything in training to suggest he is back to his 2023 best when he won gold, silver and bronze in the 400m, 800m and 1500m respectively at 2023 world champs in Fukuoka.

Maybe it was more than just gastro.

I wrote just before the Olympics I was surprised SwimSwam tipped him to win the 400m and 800m and I saw Swimming World tipped him to win the 400m. I didn't see there 800m tip.

Sam was supposed to have some injury (toe? foot?) but still surprising to see him miss out. Someone 4th in the 400 final should hardly miss the 800 final. Weird.
