What? Went down four places in the early second round. Then traded a future third for a future second. It doesn't seem that great to me. Just means we are happy to reach with our second pick and we are modestly advantaged next year. I'd say steady trading rather than brilliant. We've strongly advantaged Sydney.

Bumping an earlier post from Suma Magic, the odds of it benefiting us are massive.

If in 2019 we finish 5th and the swans 7th, then we give up:

25 (2018) and 50 (2019)

for

29 (2018) and 30 (2019)

An amazing deal.

Sydney may have beaten the system here, but they’d have found someone willing to make it work either way. I’m rapt it was us.

I don't think so. Carlton were bog awful, they didn't need to do any tanking.

Yeah true and they had a few key injuries but maybe they could have won another 2 or 3 games anyway a big risk by Adelaide as I think Carlton won’t be as bad as they are hoping..

It only backfires if Cameron gets a bid before 29 and after 25.

But if he does we can trade out 29 then trade back in. Still wouldn’t be ideal.

Do people want Valente because he is the safest bet?

Id rather take the punt and draft the guy most likely to be a A grade superstar then the safe 150 gamer bet.

Ian Hill for me please
I actually think Taylor and Valente probably are the best chance at being A graders.

Valente was just the MVP in the winning U18 side, ahead of the picks 2 and 3.

He's proven A grade at u18 level and given his adequate size for an inside mid at AFL level I see no reason why he couldn't one day transfer this ability to the next level.
There's a difference to being a game breaker, and A grade. Is Gaff a game breaker? Is Redden?

I must admit I was confused as hell for a 15 minute period last night between both of our live trades but thank you so much West Coast for helping us stick it to the AFL. West Coast could have very easily screwed the Swans over after the first trade but you guys didn't which shows your club is run by honest people.

Side note, I think Ian Hill would look amazing in blue and yellow, just a friendly observation, and not remotely motivated by the fact I want Valente at the Swans :)

Yellow? YELLOW?!?

"That's not Canary Yellow, that's Australian Gold my friend and don't you ****ing forget it!"

I expect we take with our 1st pick either Hill Valente or Taylor. I’m happy with one of those.

If we take Hill, then trust Simpson that he knows where and how he will use him knowing we will also have Cameron. I am probably still wearing my 2017 Hill glasses but he is special.

If we take Taylor, the LeCras replacement is a very good analogy. If he reaches that level, we have a gem.

If we take Valente, think Jordan Lewis without the dark side. He is who I hope for but suspect we leave.

Our next pick - would like obviously one of the above we don’t take or McLennan, Williams, Kennerley but then it gets muddy.

Tom McKenzie please with pick 29 . Looks like a taller zac merrett.
Good kick , wins his own ball and ran a 2.9sec 20m sprint to be the fastest in this years combine .

I reckon Saints were tanking for King too. Did his rehab with them so almost had to commit either way (whether that was via a trade into top 5 or just playing shit). Still don’t reckon you’d throw a whole season away for the sake of one player and don’t expect Blues or Saints to rocket up the ladder .. but I do think they’re better than what they were this year, possibly in the 12-15 range

Carlton especially were just no good. Very unbalanced list profile. Few older players who are good. St Kilda are not much better. I think their ladder positions accurately reflected where they were at.

Could we cash in on GWS and Melbourne with “Sydney swaps” as well? Help everyone rort the system, get some nice healthy future pick upgrades, and as part of the deal leave our targets to slip through to the later picks and get the guys we wanted anyway..
