So much for Pay Tv Deal Complete- Annoucement Monday. This from an article in the Age:

" The AFL has left the door open to altering the draw to accommodate any possible deal between free-to-air networks Seven and Ten and pay Foxtel to sub-license the coverage of matches but such a change appears unlikely as talks between networks have ceased.

"There have been no discusssions with Foxtel and there are no discussions scheduled with Foxtel" said David White, general manager of sport at Ten.

To hell with Foxtel showing the AFL

the Australian Football League (AFL) is an Australian sport, why on earth should we pay for a service that is a national sport? Everybody has the right to view it for free - unless their attending the game live in person of course.

We can have a look at the World Cup - shown on SBS and not a dime left our pockets - why? cause its a world wide tournament, a tournament Australia is clearly involved in, everybody has the right to view it, thus the payment in this case does not need to exist. HOWEVER, the EURO 2008 will definately be forced onto Foxtel - why? Cause its considered a 'European Tournament', it does not have Australian involvement.

The AFL - 100% Australian with 100% involvement from australians, a sport that everyone deserves to watch without spending a dime unless they are physically attending it live in person. GO FTA when it comes to showing the AFL!! Though go Foxtel when showing the WWE:D !

Are you really that naive? This is a terrible thing for football IMO. Tell me, at what time are Ch 7 and 10 going to show all 8 games? How many live games will there be? We need Foxtel as a 3rd channel for the good of the game.

As for your completely ridiculous arguement about it being deserved to be watched for free, sheesh. No major sports are shown completely free anywhere in the World, as it is unsustainable. If Foxtel dont get involved in this I imagine that 7 and 10 would lose a fait bit of money through this and as such the next TV rights deal will suffer.

I don't have foxtel and won't get it. It's filled with crap and I have a really fast internet connection anyway, so I can download anything I want almost on demand.

However, when games are on Foxtel I have no chance of watching them. Thus I would prefer it if all games are on free to air!! I would rather watch a game delayed than not at all!

I think the argument about whether or not Foxtel is good entirely depends on whether or not you have it.

let the AFL Worry about it, i'm laughing cause its back firing on afl and channel 7 & 10 the most :) hope their regretting getting the rights to it

their just going to have to axe a few more programs to fit in afl :)

Would be great if all 3 stations would just sort this out.
Foxtel needs sport to survive. They are shooting themselves in the foot by not signing up, but in reality are probably just playing the game with 7 and 10.

If you want Foxtel to show AFL the best thing you can do is cancel your subscription. The more people cancel the quicker they realise they need AFL.

I personally don't have cable and would rather it is all on free to air. I live in Melbourne so will drown in footy next year. Each to their own.

Exactly.Ch7 knows that Foxtel want AFL hence the introduction of Foxsports 3.

Foxtel have nothing to do with Fox Sports.

Fox Sports 3 was not brought in for AFL. It was announced in May.

May 31, 2006

FOXTEL and AUSTAR today announced a major expansion of its sports services through the creation of a new premium digital channel, FOX SPORTS 3.

FOX SPORTS 3 will launch in October with a 24-hour-a-day service that includes new live and exclusive Australian and international sports television.
Premier Media Group (PMG), which owns and operates all the FOX SPORTS services, will produce the new channel that will extend and complement FOX SPORTS 1, FOX SPORTS 2 and FOX SPORTS NEWS.

OPTUS TV subscribers to FOXTEL Digital will be able to add FOX SPORTS 3 to their service.

FOX SPORTS 3 will offer expanded coverage of domestic and international football, cricket, tennis, golf, rugby union and more.

its not a right to watch afl on televison

its a ****ing service gifted to us by the tv stations, and i dont know many services that are around that dont expect any sort of funding. yes, we are paying for free-to-air, in the fact we have our shows split up and ****ed around with by advertisements.

saying we all have a right to watch the afl on FTA is a joke. a third channel is desperately needed so more people, from more parts of the country have a better opportunity to choose wether they watch it. and of course, there are two choices. pay a premium price for foxtel and/or put up with interrupting and forced advertisements. simple.

i for one am hoping foxtel pick up some of the games, but more so i hope foxtel can give us some good footy shows at least

I could careless if the game was an hour or 2 delayed, you go ahead n pay $30 a month or whatever it is and ill stick to FTA for the AFL and ill catch up with you about the Bulldog's game an hour or two after - If ABC2 gets involved then problem solved, 7 can and 10 can manage its time and games.

Where did i say Foxsports 3 was brought in just for AFL.What exactly are they going to show on FS3 during our winter?
Like John Singleton said.Pay Tv can only survive on the back of Sports coverage and more importantly local content.
Foxtel,Ch7,9 &10 all know it.

100% Agree.

Seven and ten will go broke if they have to show all eight games on FTA.

Not good for the game at all.

People are silly if they think it's a good thing seven and ten have to show all eight games on FTA.

Agreed.

You want to see a game on fox but don't have pay TV? Go to your local pub.

I'm sick of the 'We have a right to watch for free' line.

Probably the same people who say players are paid too much. Never mind the fact they put their bodies on the line week in week out to give FREE entertainment to people who think life should come on a silver platter
