So we got Williams and Knobel exemptions to play WAFL but no mention of Benning. That's pretty damning.

Recruiting him in the National Draft has been about as much of a disaster as a pick in 50s can be tbh. One or two senior WAFL games in two years for a senior listed player.

You could argue rather easily someone like Knobel is different too - he's good but being kept put by some good WAFL rucks. Benning is just genuinely no where near the level.
We have had a lot of success with speculative picks. They aren't all going to come off.

Pretty sure we only recruited him because everyone else we had on our list was off the board. Would've been cat b otherwiise.

Was he a genuine chance to get drafted by someone else if we didn't pick him up? From memory, we only had the 4 senior list spots available. For what it's worth, his draft profile is way more detailed than Draper's or Conrad's (usually an indication of being higher rated), who we were probably fairly confident wouldn't get drafted.

Essendon were supposed to be interested, and back then NGAs didn’t automatically go onto the cat b rookie list if they went undrafted in the ND so they could have taken him in the PSD if we didn’t draft in the ND. That’s what I thought the justification was at the time.

If Peel manage to win the premiership this year I wonder what further restrictions the other clubs will demand to hobble them further.

We can't be having Peel winning a premiership every 10 years in a 9 team comp, that's blatantly unfair!

Yeah poor Subi. They may not win every year now.

To be fair, I can understand the frustration. Suddenly, Peel will have about 5 AFL players coming back into their team for the finals.
Kind of reminds me of junior footy when you get a bunch of older kids to play 3 games during the year so they qualify for finals.

It's not a disaster IMO, he would have been given 2 years anyway, was a complete project player

Those 5 players coming in have played the majority of the season at Peel though, especially when you take into account the 5 pre season games (because WAFL shortened their season but upped the amount of preseason games anyway)

I prefer Erasmus starting the lasagne and sausage rolls between gym sessions a month earlier personally
I'd be expecting him to get a running coach and work on that

Then when he is exhausted (to simulate games) have him kick and kick and kick at a small target

Then handball and handball and handball at a small target

Those are his massive flaws, speed and disposal

To my eye, he’s an inside player who relies on aggression, discipline and fast reaction speed.

He needs to get bigger.

And more aggressive.

But him on a vegetarian diet and tell him he'll get a steak (aqnd a beer for better results) for every opposing player he puts down in contest once the season starts. Midway through the first term round one our players will start kicking at unattended goals posts...

He weighs about 82. He wouldn't want to go past 87 because he'll be too slow.
