We won by 100+ points so the nitpicky points:
Sturt lost too many 1v1s for my liking. He’s got to win some of them, felt like he lost or didn’t halve to advantage many 1v1 aerial contests
Hughes must never play ahead of Davies or Worner again
Ras had a couple of really good hand passes but needs to keep working on finding a way to be more damaging, there’s just not enough impact there and his kicks are still too floaty. Still looks like an unstoppable WAFL player to me. AFL midfields are full of absolute guns with generally some kind of point of difference, what’s Erasmus’s at AFL?

On the positive, I have more fun watching Peel than Freo just about. They play like an AFL side, the Peel players are fantastic and there is a lot less stress while getting to watch the younger players develop.
Really don’t understand what they are trying to achieve with Erasmus?
Seems pointless playing him mid or wing when he won’t make it in either
Position.
They have Brodie already on the outer, break glass obviously.
Erasmus needs to forget about the long distance preseason and concentrate on
his speed of the mark, repeat sprints.
Add 5kg to his upper torso and play forward/mid. Or trade him to WC.
He’d be perfect for replacing Cripps.
We have Johnson, Simpson already ahead of him.
The team needs forwards, not depth midfielders, and it’s been done before
with Banfield. Started under Ross as a tagger, then a makeshift forward.
I really don’t see where the physical improvements are going to come from with
this team?
Sure we have Treacy, Serong, Young, but there are few seriously intimidating players. Maybe Emmett?
Before I hear we are young, it’s not good enough and every club that takes the
the next step you can see the work done in front of your eyes.

I disagree, his disposal and decision making is not crisp or fast enough forward role. He has one way to make it at AFL, Crouch type inside mid who gets to every contest, defends and feeds it out. AFL teams don’t love those players though and he needs size and to put A LOT of work into his handballs to pull it off

Didn't see the game but going off the stats and commentary here the future is looking bright:

Forwards - Sturt kicks 4.2 for 6 shots on goal, Delean with 3.1 for 4 shots on goal.

Mids - Erasmus 34 disposals, 7 tackles and 5 shots of goal, Brodie 34 disposals.

Defence - Davies working hard.

Ruck - Reidy and Knobel coming along nicely.

And Stanley and Noddy not even playing.

If goal-kicking continues to be an issue for Freo we must simply invest in the likes of Sturt. Let the other aspects of his game develop, the man kicks goals.
He’s a poor man version of Fritsch. Just don’t think Fremantle is the team to accomodate him unfortunately

Erasmus just doesn’t have the agility or step to figure his way out of trouble in the contested positions around forward line. He’s pretty slow as well.
It’s either inside mid bull or bust unfortunately.

West Perth switched Sturt's opponent after he kicked 3 of the first 4 goals for Peel. He only added one more goal to his tally but could have kicked a few more with 2 more set shots inside 50m and he provided a couple of goal assists with handballs, quite unselfishly when he was in a position to snap on his left boot. His pressure acts were adequate, more so with closing down space than any kind of run down tackle action. (When a team has 39 scoring shots from 61 inside 50m entries as Peel did, there would have been a lot of contest wins that didn't need much follow up.)

Erasmus and Sturt were the ones that set up the early domination 6 goal first quarter. Wagner, Worner and Davies also put in performances worthy of being selected for AFL. Brodie started off with some ball handling errors but worked hard and had some of his trademark break out of the clearances moves and work to receive at the next contest but not as tidy as Erasmus with his disposal.

Hughes was OK, frustrating at times with some lack of awareness to move the ball on quicker and not escaping tackles but then he also does some courageous things backing back and halving/winning contests against the odds. Compared to the other WAFL players, he looks and plays huge, like a key position player.

Delean is exciting, always looking for a chance to take a speccy or kick a sensational goal (the latter he achieved), and possibly in the 2nd half of the season he might get a bit of a look at AFL level for the future. Murphy had a couple of good rebound moments. I'm thinking after the hottest Perth 6 months of summer, these two players (Delean and Murphy) are appreciating for the first time not having to grind it out in mid-30's temperatures and didn't look as gassed as they did in their first couple of games.

Some of the Peel players were big contributors. Grey, Sellwood, Tregenza and Blight. Bell (maybe talked out retirement) played his 1st league game back as a forward rather than the midfield bull that he had been used as in past seasons. Scott Tuia, I thought was the local standout, playing like a nippy small rover around the packs, with a bit of speed, tidy skills and finished with a couple of goals

I agree that Sturt lost too many 1 on 1’s especially the second defender that was moved onto him (Munn’s ??). He keeps playing from behind and trying to shove the defender in front forwards. He needs to get this part of his game sorted.✔️

That sounds like a player who wishes there was a mid season trade period to me. If he continues his form I'd be surprised if a Vic club didn't come calling for a late pick.

Liam Reidy will need to be offered a primary list position to extend to a third season if another club comes knocking, otherwise he will be considered a free agent.

Two years as a rookie and offered a third year as a rookie allows the player to walk as a free agent to another club's primary list position.

Just quietly I think Hugh has been close to best on ground so far. I agree with Chris25 that if a spot became available he is well ready for it.

Personally, I’d be making the change and bringing Davies in for Draper. Its nothing against Draper, I just think it’d be silly not to use the Cox injury as an opportunity to get both of them some game time.

I also think Davies is ready and could be the better player.

Draper has A grade written all over him are you sure Davies will be better?

Draper has clean hands and reads the play very very well

I think it depends what you want, I think Davies is the better defender but Draper is a better move / rebound, especially if you can get some games into him and feels more confident to take harder options.

He's a better footballer

Do you think Davies would have handled Curnow and other key talls better?
I don’t think the Carlton game is a good one to bring up because Draper was (understandably) pantsed. Yes, I think Davies would be slightly better from what I’ve seen at Peel, he’s been awesome in the contest down there this year.

Davies bigger problem is Hughes level Cat 10s once a game

From Ben Hancock's interview on Sport FM, it seems the Peel boys and the Freo boys not selected for AFL did a training session together during the WAFL bye round last weekend.

Could be part of the reason why they got off to a fast start, and maybe why Hughes at times seemed like he wasn't on the same page sometimes as the other players.

Hardly pants Curnow pushed up the ground to get the ball because he did FA up front

He took a lucky one handed mark late on him in a tussle. I thought Draper broke even.

He got pantsed and lost like every contest he was involved in. It’s very quiet at work for me at the moment so I might go and literally count the contest count tomorrow since I had this discussion after the game as well.

I don’t expect Draper to do anything but get beaten but he was comprehensively beaten - Curnow does that to a lot of KPDs
