Facilities look amazing.

As the chief stated there are no more excuses.

Failure will see heads chopped!!

The playing group must love going to work!

I remember Mal Michael stating on Open Mike that Brisbane had some of the best facilities in the AFL when he joined them in the early 2000s and that Collingwood's facilities at that time were pathetic. Not long after that Eddie McGuire put together a deal that allowed the Pies to move into first class facilities at the Westpac Centre and are widely considered to be some of the best, if not the best, training and admin facilities in the AFL. Similar situations have played out in recent years with Essendon's move from Windy Hill to Tullamarine and Richmond's upgrade of Punt Road Oval. What this shows is a club needs to continually upgrade their facilities to keep up with the times and Brisbane simply haven't done that.

You've got to give your players and staff the best possible chance to compete with the rest of the competition and the facilities you train out of on a daily basis is arguably the most important aspect when it comes to being able to compete. Funnily enough, this isn't the first time this has happened on the Gold Coast. When the Bears were based at Carrara they were essentially nomads when it came to where they trained and never had a permanent base until they move to Brisbane.

It can't be underestimated how much of a difference these new facilities could make.

Yeah and GWS' massive improvement also happened pretty much immediately after moving from Breakfast Point (which was considered the worst at the time) to Sydney Olympic Park (which Heath Shaw described as better than Collingwood's, who had the best facilities at that time). It's certainly no coincidence.

Not only does it help with training, but it will help with recruiting and player retention. Last off-season, Paul Seedsman passed after touring the facilities, and this off-season Michael Barlow signed the next day after touring the facilities.

Let's see if there's any truth to this...

GWS win-loss records
2012: 2-20
2013: 1-21
Feb 2014: Learning Life Centre opens
2014: 6-16
2015: 11-11
2016: 16-6

Now you could argue that jump in wins was going to happen regardless but let's analyse the series of events a little deeper. When did GWS land their big name recruits?

September 2011 - Phil Davis
September 2011 - Callan Ward
September 2011 - Tom Scully
October 2013 - Shane Mumford
October 2013 - Heath Shaw
October 2014 - Ryan Griffen
October 2015 - Steve Johnson
October 2016 - Brett Deledio

Outside of Davis, Ward and Scully, who weren't massive names at the time anyway and were paid huge salaries to move to west Sydney, all their big name recruits have come after it was known that the club would have access to the Learning Life Centre. Mumford and Shaw would have spent a few months training outside of the LLC, similar to Barlow and Hanley this off season, but they also knew that the new facilities were just around the corner so it wouldn't have been a deterrent.

So, did the new facilities make a big difference? Would GWS have landed Pendlebury back in the day if he could visualise what it would have been like to train and play in Sydney? What about Buddy? We'll never know but it certainly seems they haven't had any trouble convincing players to join them since the Learning Life Centre opened.

there's been a permanent looking shade structure installed where the queues for the buses to nerang station are at the stadium. looks like it'll help with weather, but hopefully there's a bit of a better process for the actual queuing too.

also, the footpath along the stadium side of nerang-broadbeach road leading towards the intersection just past the KDV sport centre looks to be framed up and ready to be poured. should be ready for start of the season i'd assume.

Hi, my wife is going to Metricon for the Geelong game on May 6th.

I'm just looking to book some accomodation for her and I was wondering what location will be best in terms of catching the bus to the stadium.

Broadford area from memory would probably be the best

There are only 2 game day free shuttle bus locations now.

1. Cnr Boowaggan Rd & Robina Parkway
2. Nerang train station

So staying in Broadbeach and just catching the regular #745 bus from the Broadbeach bus/light rail station near Pacific Fair is probably the easiest option. Drops you close to Metricon or alternatively it is only a 10min taxi ride from Broady.

Stay around Broadbeach or Surfers Paridise-
Surfers- Tram to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre then a metricon stadium bus to the game

Sorry I'm a bit confused, do the footy buses to Metricon still depart from Pacific Fair.

So if the stay in Surfers Paradise, they could catch the G to South Broadbeach Station and then the shuttle bus to Metricon Stadium from there and this will be free if they have a ticket to the game.

What happened to the Broady bus?

I wonder if that will change since the re-development and hopefully some better integration with the light rail
bringing the light rail from broadbeach to nerang train station past metricon would be a massive benefit for the club. unfortunately with it already connecting to the heavy rail at helensvale, the government/council may not see this route as much of a priority.

Plus it makes much more sense to build the light rail towards Burleigh than Coolangatta and airport first

Tell her to stay in Burleigh and Uber to ground.
Burleigh to Coolangatta is way nicer than Surfers and Broadbeach.

If you guys want to be ultra stingy, stay close from airport, catch the 700 on gameday to Broadbeach South than the bus to Carrara from there... all free on gameday.

The best beaches are around Cooly (and Tweed) IMO
