The one I think of is Shane Crawford who other clubs couldn’t afford, came back to the hawks and won a flag in his 305th game

In the other direction, very strong speculation Ryan O’Keefe to the hawks in late 2008. Didn’t come off, but ROK won norm smith in 2012 grand final against…Hawthorn

Tom Papley, no flag tho

Dan Houston. Premiership for Port in 2026 (after Hinkley is sacked)

I remember Hawthorn wanted to trade Brad Sewell for Ryan Ferguson (Melb).

Sewell agreed, Melbourne agreed but Ferguson refused, so Sewell stayed.

Sewell went on to win 2 premierships at the Hawks, won a B&F, made the AA squad (and finished runner up in a Norm Smith).

Ferguson was delisted after 47 games (and Melbourne went on to have one of the worst patches in living memory).

Real 'sliding doors' that one.

I think from memory Tom McDonald was shopped around at the end of 2020 and was looking for a fresh start but with no takers. Came back and had a good 2021 with us

Adam Tomlinson.

Was set to be traded to Carlton for Pick 10 back in 2015 (yay SOS!) but GWS decided to hold onto him for another year at the verylast moment

…. And Carlton took pick 10 to the draft for Charlie Curnow.

Josh Dunkley requested a trade to Essendon at the end of the 2020 season, was a starting mid in our 2021 Grand Final side and then won the 2022 best and fairest before letting his contract run out and being traded to the Lions.
