Peter Hudson kicked 4 goals in his first game and went on to avg 5.6 goals per game over the rest of his career.

Recently, Rioli impressed from his first game and just got better, and will get better with time.

Palmer also had a prety good debut against the Hawks and just got better from there...

if you include pre-season comp, Wanga's would be a good nomination.

His first game was against the Blues, played a ripper game and then managed to kick the winning goal with the last kick of the game, a right footed checkside banana from the left hand pocket, approx 35m-40m out from goal.

I still remember Sandy Roberts going off his nut "Gavin Wanganeen, what a debut, what a debut!".

He went on to have an outstanding career.

For current players at Essendon, Lloyd probably heads the list. Kicked a very promising 3 goals. Not outstanding, but as far as debuts go, not a bad effort.

Andrew Welsh, whilst no star, played a very good game first up. Wouldn't have got big numbers, probably 15 or so (which isn't bad), but he tackled and spoiled like a man possessed. His attack on the footy for an 18/19 year old was outstanding, and we've got nothing less from him in that regard since.

Rnd 1 2002 played for east perth. 25 odd touches. 4 goals

East Perth never saw him again did they

i rememeber his debut the following round in the 1 pnt loss to collingwood. Malthouse said even on his first game he looked like a 200 gamer.

Wasn't it Brodie Holland who kicked something like 8 goals in that game?

Westhoff kicked 3 on debut and we were all pretty chuffed. Danyle Pearce was elevated from the rookie list and kicked a couple of good goals from forward pocket as well.

This thread is for players who had debuts and continued playing well over their career, not for players who started off pretty well then vanished after their debut seasons.
