Bolton - too much boring defence not enough attack.

Teague - too much attack not enough defence.

Voss and Hansen a better blend.

5 mids who can get it 30 times each, Cripps, Kennedy, Walsh, Cerra and Hewitt.

A monster in Pittonet, play De Koning as 2nd ruck and 3rd tall forward with 2 KPFs in McKay and Curnow who can kick 60 goals each this year.

Weitering the rock in defence, Docherty providing some stability, 2 fast attacking hbfers in Saad and Williams and maybe McGovern can contribute being an intercept marking defender a bit like his brother.

And Jack Russell to condition them.

Will be pushing for the 8 this year, but the following 2 or 3 years if they can put it together, should be pushing for Top 4.
I Recon they're more than just pushing for the 8 now.

**** the AFL and their Macca's free ad on the ball at the presser. We should make sure we have a bloody KFC bucket in front of it, full and Ken can pick at the chicken whilst he gives nothing answers.

Can someone just give Ken covid already in time for our GameDay?

Careful what you wish for, it would probably be bassett in charge.

Need to look it up but my gut feel is that clubs that get spanked in the GF never really recover from it.

Only one I can think of that got back was Geelong in 94-95.

1994: Went 13-9, scraped past the Dogs in the QF, led all day against Carlton in the SF, scraped past the Roos in the PF, obliterated by West Coast in the GF to the tune of 80 points.

1995: Went 16-6, belted the Scray in the QF, belted the Tiges in the PF, lost to a GOAT-tier Blues in the GF by 60.

Big effort by GWS to make finals 2 years after their 2019 GF smashing.

Tribey is correct that Geelong were the last team to get smashed in 1994 GF and rebound the next year to make GF in 1995.

I did this spreadsheet at end of 2020, when GWS didn't make finals, going way back to 1987.

Its become tougher to bounce back from a 40+ point GF loss. Since Geelong in 1995 no side who made the finals the next year have won a final that next year.

No real surprise Geelong were the last to do it. Blight built a great list, left after 80pt loss. Gary Ayres takes over and had experienced large GF losses and bouncing back the next year at the Hawks. Lost in 1984 and then again in 1985 GF by 78pts then wins the flag in 1986, lost GF in 1987 by 33pts bounces back and wins in 1988.

Obviously Melbourne won last year but it took 21 years to get back to a GF.

A quick scan of our game plan and ability to adapt tells me we don’t play finals as well

This would be fine by me because we'd probably see Ken organise a stage managed sacking to avoid the record, but I just don't see it.

We're going to steamroll plenty of teams this year who we simply outclass all over the field. Average teams, and there are plenty of them, will struggle to move the ball through our press and defensive setup even with Aliir out. We had an excellent defence pre-Aliir as well.

I just don't see how we're dropping our bundle and missing the 8. Missing the 4 I absolutely get if a few teams step up, but we just played like absolute shit and still probably would have beaten Brisbane in Brisbane if Aliir hadn't injured himself causing him to drop a wide open uncontested chest mark directly costing us a goal. Brisbane are currently 2nd favourites to win the flag.

EAD Bravedogs

0-2
There is definitely some decent lols in the fact that right after they beat us everything's gone to shit for them. From the ultimate arrogance very quickly back to the reality that theyre a side thats won one legit flag in almost 100 years...

Early days yet for the blue baggers, but last night was one of the few neutral games I have watched in its entirety for years.

Couldn't work out why a `premiership' coach, albeit one with a big asterisk alongside his name due to copious assistance from the umps on that particular day, appeared to make no real attempt to slow the game down and put the brakes on the blues momentum, he allowed them to play run and gun footy for 4 qtrs.
Definitely entertaining to watch, not too sure many other coaches will allow them that much freedom in future games though.

Actually wouldn't mind that. Reckon Chadbro can coach a bit - he did get the maggies into a GF 🤔
I remember reading that we moved Cornes from Maggies coach to some AFL development role/runner in something that wasn't a clear promotion because coaching the Magpies he did what was best for them to win, rather than what was best for developing players for the AFL team.

How totally depressing watching what Voss has managed to achieve at the Blues in 1 preseason compared to 10 years of Ken.

Their centre clearance work and structures is absolutely top notch.

Their ball movement from defence is excellent with fast and open movement into the forward line.

Their key forwards are given space to move and lead at the ball carrier.

The complete opposite of our game plan and exactly what we have been asking for for years.

It’s just amazing that every single other club managed to have an open and free forward line and yet that has been impossible for us to achieve in a decade.
