Forget that it was “Andrew Moore”, and forget the AFL career that came afterwards.

In what world does a 188-189cm goalscoring mid who had starred for Vic Metro at the National Champs and then in the U18 finals series — twice taking a fellow top-10 pick to the cleaners head-to-head — and then tested through the roof at the combine, and as a bonus is also the younger brother of an established AFL player (pedigree), go at 40-50?

It’s the reverse of all the people who think we should’ve taken Nat Fyfe, who looked like Josh Bootsma with a scattergun set shot.
Unfortunately he was drafted at the time when the club was at its lowest of lows. Like others have stated he probably would have reached his top 10 potential if he were picked by another side that had better coaches & development programs.

Change the date who cares, we are completely beyond anything uniting us all though lol.
I’m not against the AD date being changed one way or another.
Though I’ve just got back from the beach for a swim and there’s hundreds of marquees set up along the shoreline.
99.9% of these people are white Caucasian, some families that have children with majority of their kids sporting mullets.
Kind of puts in perspective the demographic of the type of people that do care.

I wouldn't argue Moore's potential in his draft year or where he was taken I think the reality is he would've sucked anywhere he went though, for some the draft potential is their zenith, there are top 20 potatoes every year.

Yeah, he was one of those guys who would play like a swaggering beast at the level below, but would inexplicably seem to lack belief and constantly second-guess himself at the highest level.

Maybe someone else gets the best out of him, but if he couldn’t properly break into the Port midfield of 2011-2015, he wouldn’t have stood much of a chance at a best-practice Hawthorn or Geelong.

I don't think Moore ever had it in him to be an AFL level midfielder. His best hope would've been as a pre-injury Jack Hombsch type third tall interceptor, which from memory is where we started him off, but then we fell into the 'try to make everyone a midfielder!' trap and that was the end of that.

No matter what date is chosen, there will always be a percentage of the populace that will rail against ANY celebration of the colonisation of this land.
It's an anathema to them.

Guv Phillip hoisting the flag in Botany Bay, and proclaiming the continent in the name of Great Britain was largely ceremonial, and unofficial.
On 8th Feb 1788 they did the same thing in Sydney Cove, where an envoy of the GB parliament read out the reigning monarch's (the King) petition to "officially" proclaim it for the Brits.
That should be the actual day, if we hold to the letter of the law.

Personally, I'd take 25th August (1828) as the date to celebrate, as it was the day that the King and the GB parliament officially decreed we could use the name "Australia" for this country.

Not Terra Australis. Not Van Diemen's Land. Not anything else.

It's when (under the Southern Cross) we became - Australia 🇭🇲

Although it must be said that a hot January public holiday, complete with the obligatory BBQ, beats a cold August date any time 🌞
Sam Kekovich thinks so 👍😃 🥩

Like the voice vote, a football club shouldn't have a position on something like this. It's probably also 70/30 split in Australia Days favour amongst supporters and workers and guess what, who cares? Everyone of them is allowed to love it or leave it and all are welcome at the club to argue about it at the bar if they want but no the leadership of **** wits keeps wanting to divide.

Unaccountable ****wits actually (and don't they flaunt it in our face).

I remember well until Ford mentioned him as a Smokie there had been zero discussion about him.
His name only came up the day or so before the draft.
He looked no more than a handy utility player and unfortunately never even reached those heights.
All the talk was about getting this key forward who would have gone number one if his body wasn’t totally wrecked.
Throw in Pittard and it was the draft from hell.
I know you’re a big Butcher fan and normally your opinions are pretty good.
I’m totally at the other end on Butcher so will leave it at that.

You can change the date and it won’t make a Rats arse difference.
There will always be protests and marches.
The Voice referendum gave the majority of people a chance to be heard.
Albo backed the wrong horse now he’s on the way out.

Seems like its actually gone even further away based on the recent surveys being like 80+% keep the date.

I wonder how many of that 80% just want a public holiday at the end of January. How many would be against changing it to, say, the 25th or 27th of January? I doubt the reasons for keeping it on the 26th are entirely patriotic.

Maybe other demographics would join in if it was a less divisive date. Who knows.

I am a (non-British) migrant, and I used to celebrate Australia Day in the early years, with flags and everything. I am a proud (adoptive) citizen of this great country. However, over time, the day and the flag became symbols of division and hatred, and I just don't celebrate any more. I can't help but think that the people waving their Australian flags actually don't want me around. For me, the rot started to set in with the Cronulla riots. It (I) wasn't the same after that. Still love the country, I just don't wave the flag anymore, which is a pity.

Maybe we should make all of January Australia Month and just shut everything down. Only allow supermarkets, servos, food and hospitality and entertainment venues to stay open.
**** it - extend it until the end of february.

I'm taking this platform to the federal election. Look out for Make Australia Day Great Again Party (MADGAP hats coming soon)

I believe people not only in Australia but world wide have had a gut full about being forced to think a certain way on issues by minority groups.
The things that need to be addressed like housing and the rising cost of living is getting pushed aside by diversity dribble.
Maybe not in my lifetime but sometime in the future I can see a Pauline Hanson type being PM.
Before you laugh and say it’s nonsense remember America just voted in Trump.

Yeah, it must be so hard being the majority with everything in their favour.

Anyone voting for Trump or Hanson is just falling for their bullshit. They literally ARE the reason for high costs etc.
