your saying the definition of a successful club is not losing.....

nah...winning mate that is what it is all about....they have won less premierhsips than Essendon...so I would have to pick them over Carlton....still Port in my book though.

As always PTW i take your advice on board, my thinking is probably clouded by the raving of some close friends about Carlton, i think they may have successfully brainwashed me, thanks for bringing me back to my senses, so ill change my opinion to an unbiased one. Hawthorn without doubt is the greatest club in the universe

Bubba...funny I was just going to write the same thing !!!!

Hawthorn...argueable less resources than other VFL clubs, but at least in the last 30 years the most successful.

North Melbourne...bugger all resources, reasonalble success.

If Telstra make $3,000,000,000 profit and Nick the Grocer makes $300,000 who is more successful ???

Port....the essence of sport.

I agree that labelling yourself "the greatest" is a bit rich...but typical Port.

Collingwood ???

They are the most well known and for a long time at least the biggest, and the club most people associated with football.

They have however, had the least success given the fact that they have the most resources of any club in the land. HOPELESS. Collingwood is not a successful club at all by my definition.

I would rate North or Hawthorn over Collingwood by a mile
at least post 1960.

And I must say I tend to agree with you ... but where do we start.

I just merely took offence to the perception that Port's success in the SANFL was to be considered the equal of any success in the VFL, yet major country football leagues were not to be considered.

Your points are well made and I agree entirely with your comments re:Telstra and Nick the Green Grocer - hence my passion for my club.

But I was not about to call us the most successful because I believe it has to go with sustained success, heritge of success in the biggest competition in the land.

It is a very difficult call - but I cannot have Port as the greatest though.

Im with you on this one Kymhod.........., Carb happened to trip over a thread you started on the PA site about the arrogance of Adelaide supporters, well declaring your own club as the best ever sort of smacks of a bit of arrogance in itself, although i dont particularly like them Carlton have never won a wooden spoon in the toughest Aussie Rules competition in the world, a bucketful of premierships, huge supporter base, money coming out of John Elliot arse, always a contendor etc etc, would have to be the equal of if not superior club to PA.

Bubba, its great to see hodgeman idiot has brainwashed you too with the thread I started. I'm glad you understand the rivalry between the 2 SA clubs supporters. I guess you would know thats its all a bit of fun. Everytime a Crows supporters says something about his team a Port supporter will say its rubbish and vice versa, but I guess you know that don't you?.

Now can you guys prove that I have never stated Carlton and Essendon as being great clubs also. I think not.

Finally Bubba wasn't your answer to who has the best jumper in the AFL,Hawthorn. Aren't you a Hawthorn supporter?. A bit bias, hey. Did you read my reply to that queston?.

show some balls kymthingyamejiggame....

you think that the most successful club is the one that has the most sustained success, given its resources, over a long period of time.

Just say the word....Port Adelaide...that's P O R T A D E L A I D E.....

sorry...you also have in your definition that they must be Victorian...sorry I forgot.

In that case it is Vermont.

And carb, do you understand the difference between your and you're????????

And as for my own league, I do have my own opinions, not those that may necessarily be held by all others.

It seems you are the one that finds this difficult to understand, hence resorting to personal insults in your first post to me.

Well I am one to fight fire with fire, so expect it back with interest should you wish to get nasty.

I respect that you have your own opinion, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I'm sorry about the personal abuse in the 1st post to you, but you did show how much more mature you are than me, by calling me a dickhead, correcting my spelling and digging up old post of mine. This is only my opinion, but you seem to be a bit of a weirdo.

Next of all I have never stated Port as being the only great club of Australian football. Infact I'm a bit disappointed Easty ever started this topic.

Finally I like to fight fire with water. The end result is much better.

Carb, you dont think Easty was trying to incite an argument do you? Easty wouldnt do that. Ha Ha Ha hA Ha

kymblah....

you have no credability at all on this topic...your only view is that the greatest club is "not Port".

At least carb puts his (I assume he

) balls on the line and backs it up.

You are just here looking for a fight.

Is the topic not entitled .. Port the greatets Club????

Is that not the question.

And I am answering it .... No they are not and cannot be in my opinion.

Who is, well it's a toss up depending on what the criteria are.

So I do apologise for responding to the topic.

Afraid that my opinion that Port definitely isn't the greatest club ever doesn't gel with you, but apparently discussing the topic as it is set out is not the way you would like to do things.

Give me the alternatives if you wouldn't mind, as it appears my comprehension skills are somewhat lacking.

According to ........

a moustache ?

Secondly the VFL doesnt exist anymore as the league we once knew...A suburban Melbourne football league.

So we had three comparable suburban football leagues, The WAFL, SANFL and the VFL.

Thirdly....Green Lantern or whoever you are..DONT USE MY NAME !!!!!!!!!

Perhaps, Essendon or Carlton were contenders, prior to the advent of the national competition, but whilst they were in the VFL their records , though admirable, were no where near Port Adelaides, whilst they were also part of a state based competition.

please correct me here, Im not sure of these VFL figures.
Essendon 14 State Based comp Victoria league
Carlton14 State based comp Victoria league
Port Adelaide 34 State based comp South Australia league

National competetion:

Essendon 1 AFL
Carlton 1 AFL

Port Adelaide 0 AFL
