So David Koch wants Gold Coast to wear their away guernsey in the China game and threatens to leave Gold Coast out of the China venture if they don't change their stance all because it is the same as China's colours.

This is absolute crap from Port. Gold Coast gave up one of their home games so that Port can go on a business venture in a place where neither have home ground advantage. Then he mentions how Port paid Gold Coast as if it is within their right to demand Gold Coast to change colours.

No Koch. Port paid Gold Coast so that Port can be greedy and keep all of their home games. No team will fly internationally so that your greedy team can keep a home game for free. Gold Coast should have just as much ability to sell their own brand in China as Port does.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.

I hope Gold Coast stick to their guns, wear their colours and become China's team.

There's no clash between the two clubs home jumpers so there is no need to wear an alternate strip.

Here's A Port Adelaide home game with Gold Coast wearing their home jumper

So Koch really doesn't have a valid argument.

Gold Coast's first win lol

Koch fears all the Chinese will barrack for Gold Coast because they love red and yellow. Red is lucky and yellow represents royalty. He wants them to wear white which is what the Chinese wear to a funeral.

Its nothing to do with the jumpers clashing its the fact that red and gold are Chinas national colors so the targeted audience will support GC despite PA doing all the ground work. Im fairly sure the AFL said GC can wear their home jumper anyway but i can understand why PA and Koch arent happy. Still GC have done nothing wrong

Why is this only an issue now? Surely the heavy hitters of Port Adelaide had considered who will wear what jumper in the last 3 years of hard work. Gold Coast have never played port in white because there is no clash, either enforce the "contract" or admit to amature hour.

The purpose of having an alternate jumper is to avoid jumper clashes. Any other reason for or against wearing one in this game is irrelevant

Stiff shit if it just so happens that the Gold Coast Guernsey might appeal more to Chinese fans than ports.

There is absolutely no need for the Suns to change to the away strip. Even if they were playing in Australia there is no clash and both teams would be wearing the "home" kits anyway.

I reckon Koch is concerned that the Chinese will see the Suns colours being the same as the Chinese flag and will instinctively support them, as opposed to Port Adelaide. So he's decided to play hardball with these rubbish ultimatums.

Basically this, he just doesn't want GC to be the more supported side over there.

Pathetic.

I love how he is threatening them to freeze them out of next years fixture, like he actually does the fixture himself. rofl.

If the Chinese are the ones who warm to GC (quite likely given a lot of them travel there for holidays), it could be Port being the ones out of the game in a few years.

Port organised the game as an away game for themselves and then with help from the AFL have found GC as the home team. At that stage Port could've asked for GC to wear any jumper they wanted.

But if GC signed on as the home team and there wasn't any stipulation about what jumper they would wear then it's bad luck to Port.

Koch and co have made a big mistake not getting it in the actual contract ahead of time.

Even as a Port supporter, I think it's logical for Gold Coast to wear their red & yellow. There's no clash of jumpers anyway, and we fought hard when the AFL told us we had to wear our away strip for the 2014 Elimination Final, but now it's okay to tell Gold Coast what to wear because their home colours happen to be the same as the Chinese national colours?

Kochie cannot have his cake and eat it too.

Wish I could tell the difference in the 2 teams they look so similar!o_O:rolleyes:

Comes down to the contract.

Did Port buy all elements of the GCS home game?

If yes, GCS wears their away strip.

Otherwise bad luck Kocky.... you were bested by an angry little man.

Drviccles the issue is that the GCS home jumper is the colours of the Chinese flag.
Red is an important colour in general in china, it symbolises good luck.

This is the Port we've known for many years. They were so used to getting everything their own way in the SANFL and that culture still exists. They want a lucrative sponsorship from an overseas country, but they want another club to forfeit a home game to make it happen. Now they want the HOME side to not wear their home jumper.

Anything else Port? Why not ask China to change their national anthem to your club song?
