This weekend I have attended a seminar in Melbourne on concussion in sport, so was unable to attend today's game. Instead, I had the game on my laptop in the background (albeit on mute so couldn't hear the commentary) as opposed to attending the game in person.
I was surrounded by a bunch of medics and physios who ironically worked for the Lions back during their 3-peat era - and boy did I cop it. The vitriol coming out of their mouth, it was quite beautiful actually knowing how salty they were thinking that the AFL robbed them of 4 in a row because they had to fly to Melbourne for their prelim final as opposed to playing in Brisbane. I was quick to point out that their ingenious use of IV drips more than offset the effects of the extra flights - not to mention the 40 point scoreline wasn't exactly a close one in the end. Mind you, outside of that, I had nothing else to say when considering today's margin was 13+ goals.
This was as pathetic a performance as one could possibly imagine against a team who was outside of the top 8 at the start of this round. No excuses to lose like this to such a team at home regardless of where they finished last year (as grand finalists).
As sad as this sounds, it's going to have to get worse before it's going to get better. I'm not even sure a new coach will automatically mean it's going to be better at this point. But what I do know is that a new coach will mean that our supporter base will have hope for the first time in a long time, because we all know that this Club is NEVER going to win a flag under the senior coaching of Ken Hinkley.

This season has much of 2018 about it. We recruited motlop,rockcliff and watts during the off season. Debuted them together against freo in round 1 and won by 50, funnily enough the same margin we beat the eagles by in the same round this year though we debuted soldo,bzt and ratagoulea. All seemed nice and good recruits of the year etc but just turned out to be a nice sugar hit. When really all it did was set us back. We finished 2018 10th missing finals and the last few rounds just went through the motions without making any real strides for our younger players. Who woulda thought when rozee butters and duursma came through the doors thats when we started making leaps and bounds. Its taken 15 rounds to debut any young player let alone someone recruited a month or so ago. They are there and waiting; scully, tommy A, lorenz, Jackson but kenny relies on his old greyhound mates in mcentee dixon wines golden pass boys etc. Mead lord and sinn are lucky thats all there is to it

Yeah, like I know we're hurting but this sorta shit is silly to go hard on. Being over critical in the days of social media when this shit would have happened for decades is silly.
We can appreciate the past without pretending every player just worshipped the club to the point where they put their lives on hold for the 15 years they played.
