Does anybody have any rule changes in the last few years they believe has genuinely improved the game?

For me: I enjoy the sub rule. Clever alternative to an interchange cap.

Quick restart after behinds: It just makes sense. **** having to wait for the goal umpire.

That's pretty much it as far as positive changes go.

I think the sub rule is a great one. I also would have preferred an interchange cap, but realise this would have been infinitely harder to implement.

Can't agree on the quick kick-in though. I think it makes it harder for the umps, and although the new rush behind rule has been brought in to combat it, has made a behind a bigger advantage for the defending team.

The rushed behind rule has worked in spite of itself. It's still not clear to some players when you can or cannot rush a behind, but it has put an end to the way Hawthorn/Joel Bowden exploited it in 2008.

Umpires able to recall bad bounces.

Grabbing ball out of ruck classed as "prior opportunity".

Mark or free kick in goal square results in kick from directly in front. No more inconsistency with some players lined up at 45 degrees while others have to kick from the boundary.
