Does anybody know what the rules are regarding pre-listing non-afl players. Can they be from anywhere? Can they choose to drop them off before the start of the season if they don't want them?

Because if you can choose anyone and drop them off whenever you want, it'd be a wise idea to pre-list Fevola, Lovett, Tuck, Marty Clarke ect. so that why if another club wants them, they have to give up something for them.

The 2 rules are you have to have nominated for the draft previously and and can not have been on an AFL list this year. They can get 10 players with this rule. They have used 1 up in gaining James McDonald.

Fev cannot be prelisted - he's technically still on the list at Brisbane.

I believe there's rules regarding where from - they can't just be delisted, rather they have to have been out of the top level for a season I believe.

No thats not correct at all, for example in the case of Cornes and Brogan if Port was to delist them GWS could claim them for nothing on December 6 when it has free access to 10 players who have previously been on AFL lists.

Which is why port is saying they wont delist Cornes and Brogan in an
effort to try and presure GWS to trade for them.

Also because the date that GWS is to lodge there 10 previously listed players is after the trade period it looks like GWS wont be able to on trade players like the Suns did. It seem this compensation was set up for GWS with sole purpose to get in experience, while for the Suns it had a focus on allowing them to stockpile picks hence the Suns date to lodge there 10 players was before trade week, and for GWS it is after Trade week.

from what i can gather, trade week starts on the 10th and the nomination of uncontracted players expires on the 13th. Does this not mean that they will have a 3 day window to on-trade these players?

Cornes and Brogan were going to be signed as delisted players. As well as the 16 uncontracted players, GWS can sign an unlimited amount of delisted players. Same way you were getting Luke Power. Obviously you can sign a delisted player if they are still listed, so that is why Port want compensation.
Ideally Port would want GWS to sign as one of them as an uncontracted player: they still get compensation for someone they weren't having on their list next year anyway and it makes sure they are off the radar of the uncontracted players this year and next.

Also, they are out of contract anyway, so if they do not sign they are still delisted. FYI, the previous listed players means players like tuck, Valenti, Brabazon, etc. Just players who have been on a list before 2011.

A Port supporter did a good write-up on how the rules look here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?p=22246066. Basically if they get delisted at List Lodgement 1 they're fair game. If they still are on the list after that date, they can't be taken using the prelisting and instead have to be taken as uncontracted players or in a trade.

This date was the same for the GC. That date is the very last date they can lodge the prelistings. They can do it any time up to that date, so can do the same as the GC and trade away players. However it looks like we're pursuing an alternate system and will keep most of the prelisted players.

So an unlimited list of players for GWS I think not ;) Grubby Allen is already on record as saying that they will use one of these 10 spots to get Cornes. And According to Grubby Allen:
"Port has to delist them for us to take them," Giants football operations manager Graeme Allan said of the stand-off between the clubs, confirming Power list manager Jason Cripps had met GWS recruiting manager Stephen Silvagni in Melbourne.
"We won't be giving up anything for them. If they delist them, we're interested. If not, we aren't. If they don't delist them, they've got to negotiate a contract for them."
If the Power releases the pair, GWS can take them for nothing on December 6 when it has the rights to 10 players who previously have been on an AFL list.

Yes this was the primary focus of this compensation but it also allows GWS to pick up the likes Power and Cornes provided they are delisted in time.

Surely GWS will list Valenti, 24 year old with back ti back listons, even if no-one else wants him for a trade he is the type of player they need for at least the first few seasons. He is too good a player not to be on an AFL list and would bolster the giants clearance work for the young kids. Especially given the "marquee" signings of Palmer, Ward and Scully none of whom are superstars yet.

God why wouldn't you grab Saad and Valenti just to give them a chance? Proven themselves at the VFL level time and again. If these two aren't in the AFL with any team next year I'm going to go for a recruitment job, no brainer!

Valenti definitely deserves to be recruited.

Has played at AFL level for Melbourne but continued to improve in the VFL.

Solid inside mid with god disposal, if someone doesn't take a punt the system is wrong, Saad should get a shot as well. Take a 5th round pick, are you better off with one of these guys or some kid who will take a spot for 2 years and develop into nothing.

It can be done at any point up until a week before the PSD (if I have my dates right - it's definitely after the National Draft). So GWS can sign players prior to the National Draft, like they did with James McDonald.

So GWS has prelisted the following players:
Steven Morris, Martin Clarke, Jamie Elliot, Ahmed Saad, Terry Millera, Luke Brown, Adam Kennedy, Tim Mohr, James Macdonald. And apparently of those 9 players GWS is going to hold onto Mohr and Kennedy along with Macdonald. And according to Emma Quayle has not listed any players for the final spot. So maybe GWS will wait to see if any players of value are delisted by the 31 october deadline and if no one they are keen on turns up they might go for Kris pendlebury but I think he is more a rookie selection chance, or they may sit on that final spot until next year. But for mine they would be wise to use that final spot this year.

Great to get Mohr! Best KPD in the VFL! Will be a great service for our club! Well done Giants!

Players with Mature Bodies/AFL Experience for the Giants next year:
*Tom Scully
*Callan Ward
*Phil Davis
*Rhys Palmer
*Sam Reid
*Luke Power
*Dean Brogan
*Chad Cornes
*James McDonald
*Jon Giles
*Israel Folau
*Steve Clifton
*Tim Mohr

That's 13 by my count, plus not to mention Rick Ladson, Kris Pendlebury could yet join the Giants. That would make it 15.

The Mature Bodies/AFL Experience for Gold Coast this year:
*Gary Ablett
*Michael Rischitelli
*Nathan Bock
*Jared Brennan
*Campbell Brown
*Nathan Krakouer
*Josh Fraser
*Jarrod Hardbrow
*Daniel Harris
*Danny Stanley
*Sam Illes
*Karmichael Hunt
*Nathan Ablett

Now excuse me...but I only count 13 for Gold Coast. Now let's quit the bullshit about how the Suns have so much more expirenced/mature aged players. They're pretty much the same. The Giants will have a similar season for the Suns debut season next year. We will win 2-4 games.

It's a stretch to have Scully, Davis and even Palmer as mature bodies.
