If we were to find a like for like replacement outside of our existing list, we'll have to move very quickly lol.
Even Patrick Naish spent 6 days with the club, a potential SSP would only have 2 days with us before we had to sign them.
Who are the actual options with such little time to spare?
Tyler Keitel could be a possibility since we already have some familiarity with him after he spent 3 weeks with us last year before letting him go to trial with Freo. The club was supposedly "impressed" with him.

My preference is to just give Gov a shot in the forward line like others have suggested, along with giving Jack Williams a few opportunities there as well.
Last year we ended with Dixon lmao.

Don't see why we need to find a like for like replacement, just give opportunities to the young guys we've already got on the list and if the worst happens with Darling we've got a list spot open for the MSD

Just give the guys we got a go for half a season then if thats no good get someone in the MSD.
This

The full extent of Darlings injury isn’t yet known and even if scans reveal a syndesmosis injury it’s unlikely he’ll be ruled out for the season this early. Certainly not before Wednesday

And if they do rule him out, the SSP closing on Wednesday doesn’t give enough time to make an informed decision given that we’ve not been looking at anybody.

Better off waiting to the MSD by which time we’ll know how far off Darling is, if he hasn’t already returned by then. And at that point we’ll be able to look at a wide range of options on who to draft if there’s a spot available

Holy s**t are people nuts? B Williams? You better not be referring to the b one as FF. The dude is a hunk of junk as a FF. The only reason he is chucked there is because he needs to rest.

If your going to get B William as FF just get Fraser mciness back he's about his level at least he can kick. ******* dooms day level if we see the B one as a FF

Dude has the mobility of a giraffe. Appalling set shot. Less useful version of F Mcinnes. There's no amount of development that can make B Williams into a focal point or Medicore forward player.
Mobility of a giraffe?
Its like saying natanui has the mobility of a giraffe.

I'm not sure signing an SSP player is the right outcome for us, considering we could well be in the box seat for pick 1 or 2 in the mid-season draft again.

We could trade that pick for something juicy, like pick 1 in the national draft. Or Jordan Dawson, or something.
Can we give this overused, unfunny meme a rest, until we have a better idea at the MSD?
I have at least five names in my top five for the SSP, why wait?

True, none of them had a particularly good year either. With all our injuries we needed some of the the second tier players with experience to stand up last year. I understand there was a lack of inside 50’s but I didn’t see much from him. I’m not sure if there is a lot of potential improvement in him. Hopefully I’m wrong.

He’s had an injury interrupted preseason too though, with a back.
We had a record low inside 50s and when we did it was usually a bomb or hack kick .
Our forwards were on a hiding to nowhere last year .

I Agree that waterman hasn't put up his best performances of late but with darling out we should really put Bwilliams at FF Allen at CHF and waterman as 3rd tall .

We have no more experienced options other than putting barrass or Gov forward but that is robbing peter to pay Paul.

Also like the idea of having ryan at FF when bailey is in the ruck which will be a fairly significant chuck of the game at least 35%-40%

Jack Williams?
The kid just turned 19 . I feel he needs more time being the number 1 guy in the wafl .

I think Simmo should bring back Nelson to replace Darling, then play both Nelson and Gaff as inside midfielders, he can then move Greg Clarke from his current wing position, even though he’s an inside mid to the CHF position.

That's defeatist Freo talk - we should start each season fully planning and intending to win the Premiership.
That was Ross lyons mantra at saints before he jumped ship . They have been in a hole for a decade because of it .

What's the point of having all these young talented draftees if you just let them rot in the beagles ?

I don't care about winning a few more games at home to appease the boomers.

I'm more concerned about our list management going forward .

If we somehow made top 4 this season on the back of a bunch of 30+ year olds playing out of their skin you just know west coast would spend draft picks on ready made players at seasons end rather than draftees

Hi folks, please excuse the intrusion.
Is Chesser likely to be available by round 1, and if so, do you think he will be selected?
Cheers.
Chesser was in the 2nd best 22 in the match simulation we just had .

Ginbey is more a chance in that HBF/mid role and was in the best 22 team .

Hewett and Noah long were also in the best 22 in the match sim

Waterman is 191 cm’s and doesn’t have the tools to play like an undersized KPF like JD had been able to. Better off moving Gov forwards or putting Jamo or Jack Williams there

If its a free hit, we should absolutely get someone as a SSP, even if they never play a game. The MSD should be used to look at future needs rather than short term. There may be some undrafted kids who surpirise at how well they adapt to senior footy.

Sometimes you go too far...
I genuinely don’t dislike the bloke. Simmo playing him as fp was a joke that night.

That said when it came to a defender he was really solid. Unfortunately he was way to injury prone and played in an era were we blessed with talls. Reckon if he didn’t fo his ACL in 2015 he would have covered well for Emac but then again his injury opened the door for Gov
