I assume this is a reference to Simmo’s comment about 18 guys locked in and 5-6 guys fighting for the remaining spots.

Ohh, so the 18 guys locked in must only be locked in because of their credits

Presumably if Simpson had said “no one’s guaranteed a spot, all positions are up for grabs” the same poster(s) would be criticising him for not being decisive enough, or something.

Nope.

I'd love for him to make that statement personally...

I think there’s always a chance with these sorts of injuries that Darling might need surgery out it if he starts getting some residual pain later when he inevitably ramps up his training.

Still a massive relief that he has avoided amputation, or worse, syndismosis.

Seems like the club has done the work to make sure that the correct path was taken, so happy to back in Jacks healing powers to get him ready for early in the year.

What hahah.
If he doesn't need surgery he doesn't need it. It's a close case.

On a side note if we did put him for surgery on a non injury how would that look on the injury list.

Darling out for season due to- Conservative Surgery.
Maybe just exploratory surgery. Like what we were told Shuey was having this time last year by a certain poster (may have been a bit earlier in the preseason tbf, but still rubbish)

“There’s probably 18 guys that if they’re fit and available with the experience and talent they have, they’re probably in our best side”

Fwiw, that’s the comment from Simpson which would suggest the 18 doesn’t include potential debutants or even players with limited experience

Best I can come up with is 15 players who could be considered automatic selections for now

Backs - McGovern, Barrass, Hurn, Duggan, Cole
Forwards - Darling, Allen, Cripps, Ryan
Mids - Naitanui, Shuey, Yeo, Kelly, Sheed, Gaff

That group will be named unless they aren’t fit to play

Based on preseason performances the following are all pressing for selection

Backs - Hunt, Witherden, Hough, HEdwards, Rotham

Forwards - Petruccelle, Hewett, Long, Jones, Petrevski-Seton, Waterman

Mids - Culley, O’Neill, Ginbey

Rucks - Williams, Jamieson

There’s 16 players there and I haven’t included the likes of West, Clark, Trew, Winder, LEdwards, Foley who are probably behind the names I’ve listed

I don’t think Barnett, Burgiel, Dewar, Baker, JWilliams, Bazzo and Chesser will be in the frame for Round 1

Shame about jwilliams, obviously it was unlikely he is in the first team, but for his situation an u interrupted pre season and games in the wafl are just as precious..

Wishing the young man a speedy recovery.

Cindy Moses says he could be off for 8-12 weeks

Cindy says Jack has minor ankle damage and a pain threshold that is as high as a Chinese balloon floating on the water off the coast of the U.S.

Might be scared of needles as well. Just saying.

Why? Because of the Darling update?

Other than that, is there anything of actual substance besides the usual media fluff that gives absolutely nothing away?

Simpson, or the club in general isn't exactly known for being candid.
At about 8.20 into the interview he makes a solid case for not permabanning people who make repetitive jokes
