I read an article that said his one of the stand outs. How did you get not impressive out of thin air.
Hurn has thin air and has been a standout. Don't know about a lock
For round 1 how much hair is a lock.

Feel Culley is a lock. From his freshly minted credits he's saved this preseason.

Can get to 15 with the old blokes so three locks are not long termers.

Agree. Culley feels like a lock as his performance warranted it, plus a big preseason, plus there is now an additional midfield spot available.

Hough almost feels like a lock also. Reports have been very quiet over preseason, but it is hard not to feel he is in our best 18 after his debut season.

Nope.

I'd love for him to make that statement personally...

Sheesh the stalker is still replying to my posts and getting his gander up.. maybe I should take him off ignore..

after a season of two wins and declining performance over the past three seasons especially no one should be guaranteed a spot… so he should have said everyone’s spots is up for grabs.

So getting the WC gambling forum back on track.
Now that JD will be back dominating for Rd1, who’s donated their money…………sorry placed a bet on him for the Coleman?
Be honest now!

Gavin Bell talking to Mark Duffield
• Jack Williams still in hospital for observation. No damage to lungs but a couple of things (unspecified) they’re looking at. No clarity on return date
• Duggan did have a knee clean out late last year which is why he’s being managed. Confident he’ll be in the mix for round 1

Tom Cole will never be a world beater but I thought he was well worth his spot through 2021 and in the back half of that season was one of the few players who looked like he actually gave a damn.

That said if I have to choose between Cole and say making room for a Ginbey/Chesser type, I'm going with the latter.

Cole v Hurn is an interesting one though.

I haven’t seen any match simulation, but I don’t know how Rotham will fit in in defence with a new quick-movement game style. Over the last couple of years he’s seemed really hesitant with his passing.

Mind you I feel the same about Witherden and he was in the best 22 side the other day.

Rotham was drafted as a fast attacking half back.

But Simo's game plan was the opposite. Take our time, possess the ball and pick our way through the midfield and then kick inside 50. Basically play to our strengths being tall marking forwards. But teams worked that out and flooded our forward line and double teaming our gun forwards.

Fast forward to 2023. Old style gone, new plan attack from defense with haste and use speed.

The new plan exactly fits Rotham's natural u18 style and form.

If Duggan or Cole is underdone come round 1 i would rather we went with Witho/Foley or Rotham.
Yep. As it stands we have strong competition for spots, across half back in particular, so there’s no excuse for playing anyone who’s underdone. If they arent quite ready,
get their minutes up in the WAFL

Other two yes, but Foley is so far off AFL standard for mine it's not even funny.

Rotham potentially has the most upside, given his nature attacking game was slowly killed from his kit bag.

Withers you know will rack up plenty of ball, take risky kicks, occasionally with minimal reward, and piss everyone off.

Well that's a relief.

Other things discussed during the interview

• Bazzo been in the club a couple of times, hoping he’s back within the next couple days to get him going again in rehab
• Trew, it’s still very raw so they’ll give him all the time he needs before discussing a return
• They definitely thought the worst with Darling and weren’t sure what the damage was so had to go through all the processes before deciding what to do. Prognosis only came through just before Simpson’s press conference which explains the sense of relief he was showing. Now needs to do the rehab to hopefully get him ready for round one
• They had to check the training vision to see what happened to Williams - it was a relatively innocuous knock in a tackling drill that must have got him in a vulnerable spot. Lung is ok but one or two other internal injuries they’re monitoring. Spent night in hospital but he’s apparently ok. No discussion on how long he’ll be out for
• Duggan had surgery just prior to Christmas but is tracking well. On an individual program like all the players who missed footy last year or who had surgeries. He’ll continue to build and have more minutes this week. Alternatively, other players who have had good blocks of training til now will be managed this week to ensure they have all players ready to get a good amount of game time against the SA clubs
• Thinks Duggan will be in the mix for round 1 provided he gets through the next month and is fit and healthy
• Duffield talked about competition for spots across half back - Bell considers it a good problem to have as they work out the best combination.
• Asked about any extra anxiety around injuries- downplayed it by saying all clubs have anxiety this time of year as injuries are a risk for all teams as training ramps up
• Raised increased fitness, players looking trim this year - Bell reiterated the players were pretty good coming back from Christmas last year before injuries and covid hit which made it difficult to get the extra work in so their fitness up to the required standard to play AFL week in week out. Players were given a stripped back program with more running and the ability to train together in groups to help push each other along
• Said there was strong motivation to improve from last year and leaders helped drive standards along with enthusiasm from younger players drafted in over the last couple of years
• Allen really invested in the playing group last year as a bench coach to help players but also improve his own game knowledge. They’ve held him back at times during preseason to make sure he gets through the season
• Duff expressed his opinion that Yeo is was looking like the Yeo of old and asked if he was likely to be a full time mid again - Bell agreed he was back and had a great summer but felt he’d start as a rotating HB/mid and then see how he progresses
• Asked about how close Hewett, Ginbey and Long were to be selected after starting in the “best” team in match sim - said they’re definitely in the mix and will get opportunities to press their claims against Port and Adelaide. Reiterated there’s 17/18 players who are locks if fully fit but there’s spaces available as they transition the list so they’re in the mix along with a number of others
• Duffield raised Rotham who he felt impressed with not only his defensive work but also the way he used the ball in match sim - Bell talked about how good his speed was and that he’s had a good summer that will give him an opportunity to play more AFL this year (Sounded to me like he’s not quite in round 1 discussions though). Said that he and Edwards have to match up on the best forwards in match sim so it’s good for them to see where they’re at

Allen-Coleman with Culley-rising star with Kelly-brownlow.
Paid over 100k so thought why not chuck a couple of bucks on it.
WC tri-fecta. Wouldn't let me put Eagles in for premiership though.

I daresay you'd be in the top 10 poster on this board
Quality or Quantity?

You know this only the third or fourth thread I’ve posted in your forum. edit; it’s the fourth.

I only post here when our (Lions) board is slow/quiet. And after I’ve checked the Gold Coast board.
