Dunno, they were all there in 2020 before Yeo's breakdown and we were pretty bad. But of course, then it was the hubs being used as an excuse

Kelly, Yeo, Shuey, Redden, Gaff got flogged by Red bull Rowell and his kid mate's. Then by Port. Then again by the Lions. Didn't fire a shot in any game.

Shuey had 14 disposals in the home final that year. Kelly had 12. Sheed 17. Redden 18.
It was really just that first hub. We won the majority of games after it only losing to Richmond and the Bulldogs by a couple of points. Funnily enough we flogged the Pies by 66 points earlier in the year..

Apples and oranges.

Our team of leaders has routinely waltzed off the bus and haven't fired a shot in so many games. Geelong rarely do that. How long is the away record vs Geelong and Sydney now? 16 years?

I find the Richmond covid grand final win of 2020 to be more impressive. Even away from home they still got themselves up, found the hunger and 3rd flag in 4 years. A grand final win at the Gabba no less. Yeah it's not as impressive as an interstate team winning at the MCG, but you've got to admit it was still a fair crack.

Meanwhile we couldn't even make a preliminary in 2019 and have fallen off the wagon completely since then. Injuries and covid get used as an excuse like it hasn't affected the whole competition for the past 3 years.
That elimination final loss to the pies in 2020......sums up the mentality of this group since 2018.

The only way we make the 8 in 2023 is the old guys have 1 last great season from game 1 and a bunch of exciting kids pop up and the 2nd stringers have break out years. Also something different game style wise. We are not tough enough.

I gather we will field a fairly experienced team given a healthy squad early in the season and if the team is still struggling a fair few older players will be spending the rest of the season at the Beagles

Can you name another team that hasn’t had their starting midfield since 2019?
So Shueygod - you asked the question making out as if poor old West Coast had been so unlucky to our midfield injuries.

I named a number of clubs with injuries to their midfield and you virtually dismissed them all.

Your credibility starts to waiver when you say that after his second Brownlow, Fyfe is a crab. He looked no more out of water in 2022 than Gaff, Kelly and Yeo in 2022. He missed 15 games in 2022, 7 in 2021 and 8 in 2020. They are the three years post his best in competition year.

Dusty Martin missed 6 games in 2021 and 13 games in 2022. I suppose you think this Brownlow Medallist is also a crab.

If you want to be the head cheer squad leader for the Apologists, keep it up. That said, there seems to be a number applying for the role.

I highly doubt that.

Only time an older player plays for the Beagles is under the guise of returning from an injury.

If you can imagine Shuey, Naitanui, Gaff, Darling, Hurn, Yeo, Kelly, Cripps or MvGovern ever getting dropped to the Beagles you've got a better imagination than I do. I'm presuming these are the older players you're referring to?

If you can’t understand the difference between missing one player and being able to cover them and missing 4-5 elite players and not being able to cover them this conversation isn’t worth having.

Any team that is missing 3+ elite players (which the eagles have consistently been since the start of 2020) at the same time is going to be bottom 8. I don’t care how good your depth is the drop off for any team between a top 5 player and 25-30 is massive.

Look at how dominant Carlton looked first half of this year and the drop off they experience with 2-4 injuries to key players.

It’s pretty easy to say “the fill ins just didn’t step up” when there’s still fully fit Mundy, Brayshaw and Cerra on the field.

Who was supposed to step up when Shuey, Yeo and Naitanui are all missing?

Take Darcy, Serong, and Brayshaw out of freo, do they make finals?

Wouldn’t go close.

So do the work before you embarrass yourself.

Let's focus on 2021and the 9 losses in a row after the bye. Your grand statements make me think that we were desperately unlucky with injuries. Let us dig.

In 2021, here are the following games by our 6 top ranked midfielders

Kelly - 19
Gaff - 21
Redden - 18
Sheed - 22
Shuey - 7
Yeo - 12

Dig deeper and you will find out that Yeo played in all of those 9 losses and Shuey played in 6 of the 9 losses.

In other words, out midfield was pretty close to "As strong as could be".

Just as an aside, why do you think Simpson was so sensitive about the second half of 2021? He responded very tersely in a couple of interviews "we have dealt with that". Do you think this might be more attitudinal or we that we are just the unluckiest of clubs.

Note the AFL Round 14 2021 injury article, it didn't get any better in 2022

Players returning from injury struggled to make the same impact as pre injury. ****ing shock.

You criticised me for calling Fyfe a spud as he’s been injured and yet don’t give the same leeway to our players.

On top of that we had an AA forward and Full back miss half the season.

But apparently us missing our two best mids for near on the entire season is the equivalent to Sydney missing they’re 5th best, Freo missing their 4th best, and Collingwood losing Adams and De Goey for 7 games.

Open the other eye champ.

You do realise my analysis was focussed on the games after the 2021 bye when we were nearly full strength in the midfield and went 0-9 to the end of the 2021 season. That was a June article. We were 6 wins and 4 losses for the first 10 rounds which considering the injuries was actually pretty good. Very good considering we were missing both Shuey and Yeo for a big part of that run.

Shueygod was stating our poor performances were due to a vast number of our midfield not being available. His comment was: -

"Any team that is missing 3+ elite players"

So I picked the most recent dismal performance prior to 2022 and it did not back up his statement. 9 losses in a row and apart from 3 games with Shuey out, it was our first choice midfield.

Do you believe any team in the league wins a grand final with a similar run of injuries since Kelly’s arrival?

Pretty obvious that the back end of season didn't work in 2021 with senior players returning underdone after long term injuries..

We won one not that long ago without our AA ruck, AA wing and AA half back....
Yeah a huge exception and because we had the clear best list in the year. Despite they were all there for the majority of the season and contributed to the premiership.

Not the equivalent of our current injury issues.

Ok mate, so assuming we have an average run with injury in 2023 how do you think the season is going to go for us?
