Rioli looks fitter than he ever did for the Eagles. Going to be painful watching him this year as he is a genuine gun when fit.

That’s Rioli playing v Essendon in the 2019 elimination final which was probably the last time he was happy playing football at West Coast

He was pretty fit back then and at his peak during the back end of that season

Unfortunately for us, and through no real fault of the club, he was unlikely to ever recover that at West Coast. He needed a fresh start but it’s going to sting watching him play well again

Outside of some within the playing group I doubt he has many friends back at west Coast as he really has done them dirty. I’m certainly no longer a fan

Totally agree. Looking back, it is easy to forget how fit he was at his peak with us. He was my favourite player; now reading about him and seeing the port photos just makes me angry.

I hate Port Adelaide.

Willie was my favourite player too tbh...

Willie is also my missus favourite playa.

Especially after a few wines.
Pity he didn’t play another 49 games for us

Might have had another potential father/son

Or (really sorry for mentioning) Jarrod Brander on a wing, which was never going to work

Our MC/recruiters seems to see something noone else does.I posted the HBG interview a few pages back. If true (and no reason to believe it isnt) have to question wtf they are thinking, Clark isn't and i really doubt will ever will be a wing, hes an inside bull that I think could do damage in that position at AFL level. And the one crack he ever got close to it at it at AFL level he actually did pretty well.
It was probably a case of him going to coaches and asking what he can do to get a game, and they said well you're 7th in line for the guts (dunno how?) but there's a spot on the wing up for grabs. So he says yeah whatever, just get me in. And so they pick him as that wing at the end of the season and he tries to continue that??? shrugz

Brander might've done the same thing but he ended regretting it later on lmao.
Players always say that they're "happy to play anywhere the coach tells me to".

For all those having a melt, would you rather Clark in there or Culley, Chesser, and XON.

That’s likely why he’s been told to slim down
Clark should be in there.
And if he was in there and was somehow able to prevent 3 separate people from getting inside mid time then he must be the greatest player of all time

The bottom of the ladder team searching for an edge so they go to a retreat in Bali?
People whinge about players not doing enough during the break and now taking pot shots at players doing a separate training program during said break?

If they went full De Goey, you'd have a point.

1. Clark is shit
2. Let’s say Clark plays 80% in there, that cuts one of those 3’s time to less than 50% realistically.

Not to mention we are likely to draft a guy who we will rotate through, would only make sense if he was to take the role of Sheed/Kelly and the other played absolutely 0 inside time.

Sheed and Kelly are far better players and can play multiple positions.

If hes shit (as you say) then don't recruit him in the first place. He's an inside bull, don't pick him and then try and turn him into a wing. Might aswell tell him to work on his leap and and ruckwork

The pace between AFL and WAFL is huge, not the worst call to use a late pick to grab one of the best state league players in the league and see how they go.

Then when you realise he’s not up to it, (may have been getting beaten at training) attempting a role shift to save his career.

Possibly could have been picked for depth if our starting mids went down, once they realised the year was ****ed chose instead to invest that time into the kids.

If people think 24 year old Clark who has been overlooked by every other club 6 times was brought in for anything more than depth if our team had injuries while competing I don’t know what to tell you.

He’s too limited to be anything more than a role player at best, would rather see the time given to those with potential.

When you put it like that...

Pick one of the best state league players who's always been an inside mid. Decide he's not up to it after only a few months into the system and only half a game in his natural position (where he actually played quite well).

And then try and get him to play a position that he has almost no natural attributes to play to save his career

Put like that sounds like staggeringly bad mismanagement rather than just a bad call.

Not sure anyone is claiming his more than depth at this stage, at least I'm not. I'm claiming trying to get him to play as a wing is dumb

But it would be pointless to keep him in an inside mid role he has no chance at.

Clark started as a wing where he was the WA u18 captain, you clearly don’t know him well enough to be commenting.

How long would you be giving a 24 year old to show he’s up to it? If he was showing less than XON and Culley despite them being younger, what’s the point in persisting with him in that role?

Clarks main issues when drafted were his potential and speed, if he didn’t come in and dominate the kids at training then I don’t see why those in here want him gifted games.

Same crowd that will complain about senior mids getting played in there, Clark like West is a pointless proposition to be giving significant game time too at least our senior players are AFL standard when fit.

We picked him up to fill a role if we were competing as we had a significant lack of depth in the inside mid role.

XON took a leap, we grabbed Culley and are likely picking up 1-2 inside mids in the draft again. Why would you keep him there as a 8-9th option?

Gp
Great to see the players using their time off to keep in good nick and try to develop good habits that they can maintain into next season. Can't fault their desire for success.
Good on them, but I'm amazed that teams haven't implemented yoga and meditation as standard practice already. Rehab is crucial in such a long season.
