Burgess and Gollant look to be fighting out for the Spot when we rest Tex this year.

I hope both break into the team in their own right, but good to have at least a bit of depth up forward.

In Strachans second game in 2022 he equalled the highest disposal count ROB got all last year.
Imagine he got a few games in a row
ROB is lucky he has been given the Australian cricket selectors treatment.

Strachan has hardly been given a look in, even when ROB has been in a patch of poor form.

Burgess will be preferred if we need another ruck option, but would like to see Gollant given a go when resting Tex.

Leadership group announced:

Again led by Captain Jordan Dawson who was crowned Club Champion and All Australian in his first year in the role, the group will include three Vice-Captains in Brodie Smith, Ben Keays and Reilly O’Brien.
The four additions to an expanded leadership model for this season are forwards Darcy Fogarty and Lachlan Murphy and defenders Wayne Milera and Mitch Hinge.

Murphy in the leadership group??

He would still be the 20th player pick in the team

ROB is a far superior ruckman to Strachan, it shouldn't even be up for debate.

I think that Strachan showed a bit in the limited AFL games he has played.

Just like the Port Lincoln match sim ROB pantsed Strachan again. People get carried away with Strachan beating up on undersized SANFL journeymen. Go back and check the last time ROB played SANFL.

The SANFL game was to be expected. He beat up on a 22 year old kiwi as he should have.

Whats the real interesting tidbit about that is that ROB came back to AFL and dominated...... for one week.

That first game back after being dropped he had career high Dispsals (28), Career high clearances (9), Career high R50's (5) in addition to equal 3rd most tackles of his career (7). This was all to go along with 47 Hitouts and 3 contested marks. And then he went back to ROB.

I think its pretty safe to understand what ROB's ceiling is now and what we are going to get from him in 2024. Give Strachan 10 games and I don't think he will be as far off ROB as you think.

Keays, ROB and Murphy in the leadership group.

I see this as confirmation that the higher ups at the club absolutely read this board and are now trolling it as hard as they can 😂 Surprised they didn't name Ned as captain 😛

Its not like they had a lot of options in truth. We have 12 players who have played 75+ games. 7 of them are in the leadership group.

The other 5 are Tex, Sloane, Crouch, Laird and Jones.

I get the feeling this is a bit of a "try outs" group for the year. Add a few first timers like Milera, Hinge and Fogarty in to some more experienced guys like Smithers and ROB to see how they do rather than just throw them in the deep end without those more experienced players/leaders.

Only 8 in the leadership group. So more than 1/3 of our best 22 are the leadership group. Seems too small. I would have gone for 11 in the leadership group so that every player on the field could have a leadership buddy.
Well, then you're leaving out guys that need buddies who aren't playing that week.

So you probably need more like 19 people in the group

OK - I probably should've added a trigger warning :D

I'm here to see the Murphy melts

8 undroppable players now.

I don't think being in the leadership group makes you undroppable. However, the three vice captains probably have a claim to it.

I'm not sure what the point of having that many vice captains is. It seems to me like this is just a way of creating three different tiers within the leadership group. It feels like they're turning to the likes of Fogarty and saying "yeah you're IN the leadership group, but you're not one of the proper leaders."

I guess if I am going to squint my eyes and look sideways at it, it gives vice captain leadership in all three areas of the ground (Keays up forward, O'Brien in the midfield, and Smith down back... ish?) but that's a stretch.

I don't see what we would have lost by having, say, Dawson as captain, Smith as vice captain, and the other six in the group. But I guess it doesn't actually matter.

Happy to see Hinge in the group anyway :)

HUH?
WWT's Connor Ballanden is a former AFL listed Ruck/Forward and one of the better rucks in the Snaffle. Has had interest in the AFL MSD since.

In 2022 he was the 8th best player for the 7th best SANFL team (according the WWT Best and Fairest) and barely finished ahead of old Luke Thompson.

Reilly O'brien was 27 (or close enough) and had 70 games of AFL experience. Him destroying a Connor in 2022 was nothing special.

Although I do know how much you love your SANFL - If memory serves correctly you wanted to forego chasing Rankine because we had the WWT 2023 Best and Fairest already on our list!
