Training Pre-Season 2025 - The boys are back in town.

I also went down yesterday, for the first time since the new construction. Parked on the wrong side, walked all the way around the ARC to get to watch the players in their warmups and sat under a small tree on the wing, getting stung by ants as I watched.

Narkle and Young were the rehab group. They kept to their regimen stretching their calves by hobbling, then running (a lot) chatting to trainer and having a few kicks of the ball. Young initially had strapping on his leg but that came off at some stage.
I only saw Darcy on the ground during line drills. He came out to give advice and encouragement to Riddle.
I liked the look of Riddle. He still has a lot of growth in him and didn’t win too many hitouts against the bigger Reidy, but the players at his feet were able to clear more times than not as a result of the contest he provided and he looks very mobile and quick to make repeat efforts.
The drills were posted on the scoreboard, so players (and watchers - there were probably about 80 on the far side plus a large contingent of family from the club room balcony watching) could keep track of what was happening.
Some of the drill names were mid-forward fast (and slow) play, tight rope and bingo kick which was a game involving inside contest and fast ball movement ending in a kick to a small net on a stick. There was much rejoicing when the net was breached.
Fyfe, O’Meara, Brayshaw, Serong, Sharp and O’Driscoll were in the mids line drills, and Jackson, Walters and Bolton always in the forwards drills. I had trouble recognising the new players, plus there were kids in the early drills getting experience. I never spotted Clark for instance - maybe a few haircuts over the break.
But of the following players I recognised, all had good moments. Sturt, Nev, Voss (on Cox - kept his feet then shrugged a strong tackle and delivered beautifully from our wing), Delean (faster than I thought), and Driz.
The schedule ended with 20 minutes 18v18, but then they added another 10 minutes before I left. I haven’t checked the video yet but with seconds to go in a quarter Driz marked a ball just outside 50 on the clubrooms side. As he looked to pass one of the players roared “just ****ing kick it Driz!” He did and the resultant pack mark (sorry couldn’t tell who) got an easy kick for goal.

Hope this keeps you going over the break. Apparently next Wednesday will be a big training session. But sometimes the last training session before Christmas is just shits and giggles.
Think it was Nicholls mark and goal, exciting

Could we have some clarification on whether they were stinging you or biting you? I'd hate for there being a jack jumper ant outbreak in Cockburn.

There were two varieties. Small ones about 2mm which didn’t bother me and larger black ones about 8-10mm. These were the ones that gave a mild sting - a tad annoying but I sat there for a couple of hours. They were in greater number - the first tree I looked at had a nest right where I would have sat.

Darcy looks fantastic!

He got a couple of whacks last year from players in the media, fair enough they recognise the work he's been putting in too.

How well do the fellas get along if they don't recognise one of their own because he's wearing a hat?

I read that training is on tomorrow. Last season I rocked up to Cockburn on a day that they trained in Freo. Anyone able to confirm is they're at Freo tomorrow? Will try to get there to see if Hugh is donning a trilby.

The freo app confirms that it's at 8.45am tomorrow at Cockburn
