I am not going down a revisionist route but I suspect we were ready for someone to swoop on Knobel and had a backup plan - they spent no time calling out the Riddler's name. Which says two things to me:

1. We rated Knobel at about the point where you would delist and promise to rookie and not cry if you got gazumped.
2. Skinny rucks are longterm development projects and sometimes you get them wrong but some take so long you can't even tell yet if you got it wrong.

Knobel can ruck, of this I am sure, but can he bring it in time and with enough other stuff?

I am pretty high on Riddle. I saw a few of his colts games and he genuinely is another big young dog, fresh off the leash, running around everywhere, doing things big dogs probably shouldn't be capable of doing.

And I liked Knobel.
Without commenting on the quality of Knobel vs Riddle it is structurally much better for our list to have a multi positional player than a budding 1st ruck

I’d love to know the time trial times for the various AFL clubs. Annoying they don’t publicise them at all.

Freo do it slightly different with 3 x 1km efforts. Would be fascinated to know if any player broke 3:00 min for any of the reps. Expect they would be holding back from going flat out on any of the reps given there was 3 to complete. Running on grass slows them down by a few seconds too compared to a track or road.

I remember Sharp was running 2:55 kms last year when they had Peter Bol pacing them at the club for the day, and he was well ahead of the rest of the players.

A lot of other clubs do 2km time trials. Would again be interesting to know if any were able to break 6:00.
I’d say a lot of the more mature guys would be in the 6:30 range having put on some kilos to their frames.
Harry Sharp who was traded from Brisbane to Melbourne has a 5:28 time over 2km to his name from the draft combine a few years ago which is truly exceptional for an AFL player.

Johnno didn’t miss a shoulder day.

Definitely put the work in over the summer.

Hope he gets the rewards with his form this year, may well play more inside.

He’s going to be massive MJ.
Being so tall it’s taking longer to fill out but in 2 years time he’s gonna be Crippa like. Plus he’s got more zip.

Few more years and he’s gonna be top 5 in a 2021 redraft

I'd be careful judging on any one running performance at this stage as they all come out of their off-season program. We don't know what each player's plan was.

Wait to see the body of work as training ramps up.

Anyhow, very excited to see that most are in ripping nick and we're entering pre-season even fitter than last season.

On Luke Jackson, can add that having tonsils out as an adult is awful, they take much longer to recover than kids. Very little fun!

Clearly you're new around here.

If a player is slower than you expect = he's fat, not dedicated, "Let's replace him!"
If a player is faster than you expected = hall of fame player, best 22, "Why doesn't he get a game!"

There is no in between.

Erasmus and Brodie were earier picks than Bruce and can't get a game. If you're right he's either a huge chance for the rising star or we get smashed by injuries.
Erasmus and Brodie were completely different types of players. Big inside mid extractors vs medium-small inside/outside good decision maker great disposal player
