I thought he'd copped a couple at WAFL level when he was on the road back to selection.

Concussion pre-season and then early in the 2019 WAFL season. My recollection is that there was a mid-week press conference later in the season where Lyon was asked if Sturt was a chance to get selected and he ruled out the possibility that he would play any AFL in 2019 citing the need to look after young recruits.

The injuries are mentioned in this 2020 preview.

Yes he had a few concussions prior to his draft and was concussed for Peel.
It's almost at the stage where a concussion is the worst type of injury to get.
We used to be happy it was a head knock instead of a knee or ankle for example, but not any more.
Here's hoping Sturt is OK.
Sorry to bring the vibe down.
To make up for it, here is a discussion point: Could Murphy Reid be used to take the kickouts after a point?
Decision making is his forte, or will he be too far up the ground?

I hadn't considered him on the defensive end of the field.

What makes you ask?

The AFL website has a post with some "long reads" & one goes into kick outs from full back.
Maybe Reid could find a spot like N Daicos & Sheezel did at the start of their careers as the distributor from the backline?
We seem to have enough defensive cover.
But we also have a very good backline, so I'm just throwing it out there to consider.

The write up on AFL.com.au mentioned Murphy as impressing with 2 goals and plenty of i50 in a role similar to Cooper Simpson - rotating between half forward and Midfield.

They also singled out Brayshaw and NOD as playing very well.
Very interesting, that twitter guy people have posted just now said Reid has barely touched it in the last 3 sessions.

Very pleasing to hear Reid was attending centre bounces and Simpson played well.

Keen to read the write ups from our regulars later today.

Worth a read.
Thanks for sharing - it's a good write up.

I like the description of Erasmus as an almost man - feel like that describes him so well. I have been pretty critical of him but mostly because I believe he could be so much better.

Also no one should be too worried about his observations on Murphy Reid not getting a touch in match sims. Bruce looks the same as about 6 other blokes running out there, and I swear they must coordinate with each other on their outfits right down to boot colour and undies. He seems to be a very ambitious kid, so I think he will do what it takes and find a way to debut.

Whether he touched it much I guess is up for debate. But according to the AFL write up he kicked 2 goals and the HFF is a difficult position to accumulate possessions. So I agree wouldn’t get too concerned.

Training
Today I was there after warm up and watched only match sim. I'll be brief as I didn't get to watch enough intently do to a few distractions that occurred.

Serong and Walker Training to the side separately. Maybe just load management as they were running and side stepping just fine.

Bolton was in everything up forward. His side didn't have it up forward as much.

If these lads can put in that intensity in that heat then they must be in good fitness. I take my hat off to them.

Banners and Sturt have already been spoken about.

Narkle after a slow start to the pre season is starting to show why he was targeted and if anything will be good depth.

Erasmus gets a fair bit of it and will make a mistake and in the same play recover well. He definitely looks lively. He just needs to polish off his skills when handballing.

The player who has impressed me the most is Tracey. He looks our most dangerous forward who is so prominent and doesn't make mistakes. Bolton being the other most dangerous forward but for different reasons. Amiss is busting his gut to become a genuine A grade player. He looks good the difference is Tracey seems to have a bigger presence than him. Both look in terrific shape and I feel will be hard to curtain both players.

Two goals at half forward as a teenager getting used to afl level in 40 degree heat. I think some people can be over critical

Thanks for the write up Husk, appreciate it.

I reckon the best way to polish Ras's skills up is game time, real game time in the big show.

It worked for Treacy, the bigger block of games he got into him the better he got.

Could be talking about Ras in 12 months time, the same way we talk about Trace now.

I agree

He was the best player at wafl finals. He now needs a block of games. I understand that Fyfe has more experience but he probably won't be ready for round 1.

Which teams have two equally good KPDs capable of blanketing a #1 forward? Both Amiss and Treacy have multiple tools to burn you on the lead, in a pack, out the back or at ground level to be nighmare matchups for a team

Just start the season with Erasmus and see how he goes. Plan for 4 or 5 games. Let's find out.
