Extra umpire could just watch the player that is standing the mark.
At the moment 3 refs in b-ball and umps in AFL work in triangle to see the play..
4 umps on a footy field is new dynamics.

Anyone see the practice match? Was that umpired?

9 extra umps /week @ $120k each. Bringing unemployment down at $1 million/year for level of footy.
Three was an umpire employment crisis last year and we had to bring in a dissent rule midseason.. Tom Lynch seen rolling his eyes at a decision. 50m penalty.
Personally it makes umpires look worse if they can't discuss a decision maturely.
