I kept stats for the 2021 season. 24% of all of Carlton's goals that year came directly from free kicks (i.e. McKay throws his arms out and gets a soft free then kicks a goal). This didn't include indirect frees (for example if a player gets a free on the wing and bombs it forward where McKay marks and then goals). The next highest team was Gold Coast at 19% and then Collingwood at 18%. Tigers were predictably in second last place with 12.6%.
In fairness to the rest of his team, 17 of those 18% were to Ginnivan.

Taranto is killing it. Hope his form continues into the season.

The guy is an absolute gun. He suffered at GWS from being one of their only mids who could play forward so he spent way too much time out of the guts. (Ward, Kelly, Green, Coniglio are mid only). I’m optimistic he’ll be like a Lachie Neale… excellent player who became a superstar once out of Nat Fyfe’s shadow.

He said in that podcast with Sheridan that he put his hand up to play that Forward role because he was the only one who actually had some experience in the forward line. I am really hoping he is a 75% mid next year.

Didn't keep track, was a lot of work just doing it for 1 season.

Main reason I did it was because although we're always down the bottom of the free kick differential ladder, oppo supporters say we get heaps of cheapies in front of goal. My analysis blew that shit apart. Not only do we not get many frees anyway, we don't even get them up forward.

I really think we don't need him as a forward if everyone stays fit. We have Dusty and Shai who can play mainly as forwards with stints in midfield, both are much more dangerous forward than Taranto.

Clever to recruit Narkle.
Josh C always had a psychological mastery over the Cats, intimidated them in finals.
Josh was imposing on the HFF, scored our first goal in the 2017 Grand Final.
A Kardinia discard who became a dual premiership champion.

Yep unless we have load of injuries he shouldn't need to play forward. Bolton is the best small forward in the comp and dusty does whatever he wants. We're more likely to have meatball and cotch injured which will keep Tarantulino in the midfield all the time
