How much of the preseason has he missed?

Is he expected to play the 1st game this year?
Yeah he is on track for round 1, the injury doesn't sound serious but there's always the chance that we are going to be cautious with him considering his injury history.

What about the preseason? has he got the milage in his legs to hit the ground running in the 1st game or will he have to work himself into the season.

Agree Cotchin is a s**t forward imo his worse position on the ground .

Needs to stay as a mid or nothing.
Yet he kicked 4 in a short session last week. Yes just training, but he has never played forward other than 5 minutes here or there so how would we know.
Cotchin will attack the ball in the ground or in the air and has the attitude to make whoever drops in the hole think twice. Jacob Townsend but twice the footballer. He is a pretty average set shot, but will create plenty of others. Part of the rotations, if he can go forward as well, even better.

They used a points system. These are the rankings based on the points system applied (for example 100 points for a Norm Smith, 100 points for a Brownlow etc) so under that points system, that's the order they finished in. It wasn't based on their opinion.
Except the points system is completely arbitrary, so somewhat based on opinion as those opinions of what is important made up the system.
Notice that winning a premiership didn't score any points?

Sadly I think you’re probably close to the mark. I expect Dusty to be one of our top half a dozen players but probably not the dominant force he was. A lot will be determined by injury and provided he is mainly injury free will add plenty to our side. Fingers and toes are crossed and the roar of the tiger army round 1 may just be the pep up/ tonic he needs.
I'd be very happy with Dusty at no.6 in the B&F, Hopper 5 and Taranto 4. I guess the point is that if Dusty comes back better than last year which he is odds on to do, then he will still be a very good player. A new recruit effectively. Of course come finals things may change and he may revert to form.

I dare any coach to put #3+ Def on Dusty.

yeah you never really know how someone is in a position until they play it for an extended period. sometimes you see defenders or forwards go into the midfield and look a million bucks for a game or two then become really average, or they look terrible but when given more of a chance later on they improve. cotch has never really trained for forward much or played there beyond 10 min here and there so we can't judge too much yet

If Prestia has another injury plagued year and the team doesn’t make the 8 I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dion up for a trade.
Zero chance, absolutely zero! Have you listened to Dimma talk about Dion? Zero chance Mate, and Dion himself has said he wants to keep playing. The guys a gun when he’s on the park, and yes, he gets injured a fair bit.
But when he got himself right for finals, not just the 3 flags but even last years tragic loss, he was outstanding in every game. We ain’t trading him under any circumstances imo

Lynch to play minutes against North
Prestia and Grimes in rehab with him but only due to a very conservative approach
Taranto and Hopper have done full preseason
Vlastuin recovered from rib issue
Gibcus might get back within the first month
Graham likely for round 1
And when isn’t prestia in rehab?

As far as I'm aware he was fit for all of pre-season up until only recently. His fitness has never been an issue though.

Mate you are so far away from my point the distance could be measured in light years.

The man is 31 and a lot of people here and in the media are talking him up like he is coming off his 17 season. I just don't understand how everyone thinks that he is going to go back to this dominant force. Do I think he is primed to have a good year? Yeah he is probably going to end up top 10 in our BNF but if you read some of the things said any result other than a second Brownlow and 4th Norm Smith is surprising

Who thinks he can do 17 again? That’s an aberration, it was a freak season that only another GOAT could do.

But I don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect him to still be the most devastating player in the comp on his day. Ablett and Buddy both have done that well into their 30s.

Besides the entire sporting world skewing older and older as athletes look after their bodies. Messi just won a WC at 35, Lebron, KD, Steph are still all-stars and likely all nba at 34+, Tom Brady won a Super Bowl at 40+.l etc…

Yes I noticed that Premierships weren't included.

I was just pointing out the process that was used.

Dion is our second best finals player behind Dustin Martin statistically.

I feel like he was decent enough in 2021 but the whole team was flat and we had a s**t season. He carried us in a few games when no one else could be bothered.

He then copped a serious injury late in the season and lost a lot of weight and muscle, then shortly after his father passed away - this would wreck most people for a period but he was only 29 and SUPER close to his Dad from what it seems, so you can imagine the horrible toll that must have taken.

Come 2022 he was still recovering and building up strength again but in a very non-Dusty way, his heart wasn't in it, he was grieving and depressed, wasn't training hard. He was only average and you could tell he didn't want to be playing. Then he copped a hammy in his first game looking like his normal self again (17 touches and a goal in a half through the midfield against the Eagles).

But now he is seemingly back to full fitness and from all the photos you can see he is happy and enjoying himself again. From all reports he is flying this preseason. I wouldn't think Brownlow, no way, but a 2020 level Dusty is absolutely achievable, if not potentially even better than 2020.

I did some numbers. Based on the number of coach’s votes and Brownlow votes, in 2021 when he got injured he was heading for around a 17th place finish in both Brownlow (16 votes) and coach’s votes (around 60 votes). If he came home with a wet sail as he often does he could’ve been around 10th in both.

So by no means an outstanding season, but still excellent to be top-20 in the comp on the back of what he did in 2020.

Then 2022 was destroyed by mental illness and injury. Let’s not forget he was tearing the Eagles game to shreds in the game he did his hammy. Imagine he got through that game and remained fit … a 2022 flag was there for the taking.

So if he remains physically sound I’m confident he’ll have a great season (average 20+ touches and 1+ goal per game). Superstars have pride and he will want to show he’s still one of the best in the game - the only thing that can stop that is injury.
