Training Pre Season '24

All this camera close up tv sheet makes you think each afl contest is only physical...smash and grind...
With a bigger tv picture we can see the subtilties and build up of the footy contest...
Exactly. It's the same type of shit that Ch7 have been dishing up for years when they put together those cringeworthy "highlights" packages for anyone unfortunate enough to be watching. They haven't got a fu€king clue.

imagine big sexy is ready for first game

they will play kozi and big sexy forward which leaves balta to play back all while training forward for the whole pre season

amateur hour
Balta is not a forward. Never was. Never will be. Because he had a few brain fades they quickly move him out of his best position. If he doesn't have to think about it, he's fine. As soon as he tries to do too much, that's when he fu€ks up.

There's 2 positions he's good at: key defence or second ruck.

Agree. I watched the highlights and learnt nothing. A zoom up of a player running and kicking tells me nothing.

A couple of the marks were okay.

It's marketing, nothing more.

Yep. Marketing for morons at that.

And Gibcus will be a third tall/intercepting defender type, rather than a key defender. So he's not really a replacement for Balta. Ideally he'd be with him in the backline alongside a second key defender, such as Young or Miller.

Thompson Dow is a fine young man who will get supporters to stand up and applaud when he racks up a ton of the sherrin and gets leather poisoning
I'm looking forward to how he, Sonsie and McAuliffe go in the middle. All three look like the most promising young genuine midfielders on our list. Dow though, has to make inroads this year as he's been at the club for a few years now. He looks to have poise and time when he has the ball.

The club is clearly going to have a crack at a big free agent or trade in the next year or two. If we can't find a key forward before Lynch is finished then that is where the resources will need to go. If we can find a key forward set up that works without Lynch, then the priority will rapidly switch to a class midfielder.

The likelihood of Balta being the main solution at key forward may not be strong, but the stakes are high so the club needs to find out. If Balta worked out as a forward, the club is free to kitchen sink players like Harley Read, Luke Uniacke or whatever other dangerous midfielders might be out there and open to listening to serious offers.

I disagree re: Dow, I see no poise at all and only his poor disposal.

That last game of the year against port give me some hope
Played like he belonged at the level but so far that has been the exception in terms of his performances and not the rule

I’m glad we have given him the year to know for sure
The way he plays is very different compared to the other midfielders we have and his movement through traffic and speed could be a real asset in a midfield that is pretty slow overall like ours

I think Dow and McAuliffe are looking the most likely to being the two who will refresh our midfield (as much as can be).

Both need permanent game time in the middle.

Yeah same page mate
At this point I would prefer these two get a crack in the middle before Ross

But if it’s more as a utility role I would prefer Ross if that makes sense
