ive said it before but theyve made enough fundamental changes to the game now that it should be a sperate offshoot like league and union. it's unrecognisable from 20 years ago.
Probably unpopular but if we want the game to look like it did 20 years ago it probably means we need to have zones in the game and limit how manny players can enter each section of the ground

Means no flooding of forward lines and rolling scrums of repeat stoppage due to congestion and even numbers at each contest

The rot began when The AFL Old Boys Club decided...without feedback...to remove the Goal Umpires long white coats!
Bring back the long white goal umpire's coat!
And the fecking hat too!

It could be, I am pretty adamant our season is going to start by round 6 with a terrible W-L record and finals will be gone.

However, a down year on the ladder isn't the worst thing for us right now. It's been a while since we've racked up a top 5 pick, and rebuilding for a flag those sorts of picks are super handy. Grab an elite youngster for the next 15 years.

Yze gets to pump games into kids, try out some new positions, test and tweak his gameplan.

If we do bomb, which is a possibility, it's just a wobbly first step on a long journey, I would have no real concerns given we've just started with a new coach.
Yeah agree mate... I can cop a down year as long as theres competitiveness but I think there will be a few games where we get walloped

Feel like it's absolutely foolish to try and predict how teams go purely on paper. Last year tipping was a bloody nightmare for like the first 10 rounds because there were "upsets" everywhere. It's a very even competition.

how is the stand rule still in place 🤣🤣🤣

It’s here to stay

why

it has ruined the spectacle

Only tip of the iceberg the Stand Rule.
Last Touch between the arcs will be next
With the concussion issue i can see it moving away from a contact sport within the next decade.(No Bumps & No Tackling to the ground).

Not really...
Wobbles and GWS both say hold our beers! Both Teams rocketed up the Footy Ladder last year! Anything can happen and will!
Don't forget the Aints and Port.

Aints 2023 had a filthy list and everything that goes with it. Ross wanders in and tells them to win or else. They make the finals.

Port2022 finished 11th with 10 wins

2023 get JHF but

Have Dixon in the same bucket as Big Sexy, no real ruckman that could play a game out, a Brownlow medalist and their captain less than average every week and club most solid player (Boak) age affected. (Sound like a Richmond season 2023?). 17 wins in the regular season.

% off top two, with no list depth, no real pace, no massive bodies.

Dimma's old witches hat zone defense only worked when the rules allowed us to choke up on the oppo and deny angles that would've opened us up. Now with the stand rule you can wheel around and kick the ball on any angle you like. Dunno how many times we watched teams last year just chip their way all the way from FB to FF, was remote destroyingly frustrating.
If Yze brings a modern take on defense we're instantly a more competitive side.

Just adapting to the current ****ed up rules the afl has in place should see us right there with any team imo. If Pies are the yard stick and they're in a very similar situation to us when it comes to their list, why can't we push into the upper rungs of the ladder?
The match sim was pretty scrappy with a few good passages of play so pretty hard to see much game plan change. What I did see was more pressure on the ball carrier and less guarding space like witches hats. As you say was Hardwicks sty. The tackling for a practice game was good. When players took on the tackler the tackles stuck or the player was forced to dispose of the ball under pressure. This appears more likely to be the change of game plan not the supposed longer kicking from what I could see in the sim. The link up between the mids and forwards was awful but we had all new key forwards and a mix and match midfield so not really surprising. I want to see a few more practices sessions before I make any predictions for this season

One thing that will be interesting is how we go in terms of free kicks

We have been told our game style and coaching led to us giving away more so if that’s true we should be giving less away this year and Gold Coast should be getting penalised more

just remove the farrken stand rule and I'll be happy as a pig in

its a blight on the game

Coaches have changed the game, not the AFL
you normal

the stand rule, 4th umpire/ dissent / whatever other bullshite they recently added has changed the game more in 3 years than it did in 50+

the cheating is off the charts now and the ump yelling stand every 3 seconds is like under 10s netball

dont forget the stand rule only came in cos shocking couldnt handle loosing to us in 3 finals series in the same fashion and so he designed a rule that would allow the scats old campaigners to win a flag

then he ran back to be their ceo the following year

the stand rule is a Richmond rule
