Hi folks. A SC question, is Tauru going to be fit for the start of the season, and do you think he will get early games?

You'd be better off with Schoenmaker IMO. Much more likely to be best 22 without Battle in the side. Marcus Windhager might be a good roll of the dice. He's best 22 but been a bit unlucky with injury. I think he could break out this season. Especially with Dow out.

Yes. And he will play every game, and as a midfielder.

Hugo Garcia paying $ TAB for Rising Star pretty solid odds...

He’s a bit of a ripper bloke. When signing my boy’s jersey he goes “OH CANDY STRIPE NICE JUMPER!” More than happy to jump into a photo, big smile on his face.

I reckon he’s as happy as a pig in the proverbial.

A smile on his face? Are you sure that was Garcia?

Please don’t go full Gringo yet. I prefer summer pre-season Gringo, where everything is smiles and rainbows and lolly pops.
I estimate midway through the first quarter against Adelaide, after Thilthorpe has twisted off Schoenmakers head and kicked three.

Enjoying the reports as always of training. And the progression of our young guys.

Last year at this time track watchers were impressed with what they were seeing compared to previous years. All seemed set. And then Lady Luck seemed to take a hand with close losses, a bad draw, and being cruelled by injuries and suspension.

How do track watchers think this year is progressing against what they saw last year? Sounds to me like the quality of the drills has gone up a notch. I keep hearing Bolton’s name in all this. Which is good I think. He’s drilled some pretty good teams in his career.

So… year on year. What do you think are the main differences?

The biggest thing is we are seeing A LOT of competition

This time last year the team was relatively easy to pick. Now you’ve got guys like Windy who are borderline best 22 while Stocker Garcia Jones Arie even Hall are pushing hard

Might be partly due to the young kids being the drivers of standards. Last year we saw a glimpse of it at times but this pre-season they have fully taken over. It’s Pou Wilson Garcia instead of Steele Sinclair Row etc.

Skills also look better. Don’t know what to attribute this to but hopefully it’s genuinely just improvement from the players rather than something like easier drills etc.

Ha! I’ve got the photo to prove it but will keep it in the vault so as not to ruin his reputation.

I’m not that observant really but for me it’s tailored specific drills where previous was more positional and whether to kick long/short and down line/when to go inside, holding our shape.

Current drills seem very tightly focussed on specific scenarios (wide or narrow side of opponents, overlap runners, running without ball). Also would say playing group, while in the past have been vocal and focussed, seem knowledgeable and confident with goings on. On Monday the level of communication and buy-in was very high.

Wilson, Pou, Garcia - big impact on training standards. Bolton for me looks the business.

Side note; up close to Macrae he’s pretty effing big!

Brilliant. Thank you. And despite the ‘biscuit scandal’ it does sound to me that Bolton is a big part of the lift in standards. Sometimes quite good technical coaches aren’t great head coaches. But very good at the nuts and bolts. You need that mix in coaching.

The desperation of players pushing up to be in a good team can’t be underestimated. We gave games to players too easily in the past. And kept players in who didn’t necessarily deserve it.

I don't have any real inside info so take this with a grain of salt but the word is there is and has been a little player unrest simmering just below the surface. I won't name names, but it seems pretty obvious who this is tied too, and it doesn't seem to be going away.

Anyone else heard anything about this? Pretty sad, and a bit of a shame if true I must say.

I'd be pretty pissed off if there were no biscuits too.

Absolute dribble

I think this year the competition is going to see how much of an absolute weapon, Wilson is.

I think if

3 of Pou Wilson nas Owens windy and King can elevate then we are a serious chance imo

The boys look very fit, and the younger players are more prominent. Guys like Pou, Arie, Hugo an NAS have really stood out. The other noticeable thing for me is how young our group is. Even the new recruits are really shining. Guys like Dodson, Travaglia, Boxshall have been really impressive. Our recruiting over the last few years has been excellent. I also think bringing Brendan Bolton into the club was a master stroke. He has been very prominent and vocal during the pre season and his eye for detail is unbelievable. He picks up on so many little things and he’s got such a positive energy about him.

I'd struggle to take orders from Captain Nerdman of planet Dorkonia

Thank the F Barrels.

Surely that was a troll like in the Hobbit to see if we are awake.

An Essendon supporter asks us a SC question and we rush to put out the bowl of milk.

We obviously need a preseason as a board ourselves. Stop analysing the f out of all our players and wake the F up people! There's football to be had in 6 weeks and we are in dozy summer time 🤣

So you’re saying there’s player unrest re: Bolton being there?

My eyes lit up when I saw the news article of Brendon Bolton joining our club

I remember hearing somewhere that a lot of people at Collingwood attributed their premiership to Bolton and his impact as a cultural transformer

At face value, couldn't have picked anyone better to help us forward

Windy and Owens both starting their 4th season and both have around 50 games under their belts. Year 4 is commonly when good players have their breakout season. Both have shown what they are capable of in patches . Hopefully this is the year they put it all together consistently and the competition stands up and takes notice.

For the same reason above its why I expect we will still see up and downs with Pou and Wilson. They aren't far away from dominating games , and it's not uncommon for players to announce themselves in year 3 or earlier (hello Nas!) but I'm still keeping my expectations in check on those 2 for at least another year. Do I think they are both going to be stars of the comp - absolutely!

The kids are going to be exciting to watch.

How about if Taura manages to win the Rising Star award this year? Especially after his delayed start to the season...
I'd like to see that!
