Big fan of West and he largely went under the radar for the most part which I guess is a good thing. Everytime I saw him play, he reminded me of Nick Larkey, is very competent at rucking in the forward line as well. Strong hands, great on the lead but also in packs . Decision making sound but that could improve. Can kick bags and is a very solid lad right up close if you get the chance, it wouldn't surprise me if he still has some growing to do, closer to 197cm perhaps.

Overall, he should make a pretty decent key forward for many years.

His profile also reminded me of Josh Treacy and he’s come on brilliantly.

A forward at the level of a Treacey or Larkey would be amazing.

Spot on.
I was watching a video from a draft watcher that mentioned this very thing. Its why most mids go early and tbh, it was very mid heavy - which is why fair few, even well rated talls dropped. So the ones mid range dropped even further. That's not to say they aren't any good, just that talls take longer and in a depth draft they just got pushed back and mids are generally more ready made to go.

Mids lot more Sure Bets then Talls

Only take Tall early IF the Dominate

That reason a lot get taken in 2nd Round with teams 2nd Picks

I wasn't pretending to be a doctor 🙄

It's what Wade said. A mild stress injury. I take his word over anyone else's. They were HIS words.

“A MRI has confirmed that Tom has a mild second metatarsal bone stress injury and he will spend the next two weeks in a boot before we reassess what the next steps are.'

We'll all know more after the boot comes off.
No but you stated that it’s not a fracture when in fact a stress injury is a micro fracture of the bone That because it’s not visible on a radiograph or scan doesn’t mean it’s not there

As I have been saying, we won't be able to rely on the availability of Titch in 2025.

Some here have said that the 6-6-6 rule has eliminated the need for pure mids who go in and under.

This is not true, given how Titch played in the 2023 GF at stoppages all around the ground (not just centre bounces).

The latest injury to Titch is a reminder. We will need Ned Long and Ed Allan to step up and be able to play that role where necessary around stoppages. unless Fin can step up in this role (despite the total skepticism here that he is capable).

Whoever it is, we need that player, and we need to do everything in the preseason to try to stimulate the development of just such a player.

West is the most key forward-looking bloke that we’ve drafted since Travis Cloke.

Here’s hoping appearances aren’t deceiving because he really does look the part, doesn’t he? An exciting prospect!

Do people not realise McStay is literally the exact same size as Travis Cloke?

All these calls for a key forward and we have one

The issue is he’s been injured for at least half his time at the club. It when he’s actually had a chance to play (and especially in finals) he’s shown he’s more than capable of being the solution

He was incredible in last year’s finals

Issue was we had no Young KPF's and West is the 1st we taken in the Draft since McLarty

Tony Lockett was an awesome field kick, admittedly it wasn't on show most weeks, but when he did wander away from goals, he showed how precisely he could pass a ball - such a talented unit, one of the best ever.

Tony Lockett passed the ball? When?

Or do you mean to the cheer squad sitting behind the goal umpire?

Yes, McStay is terrific but I was specifically talking about players that we have brought into the Club via the Draft.

The thing about Charlie is he already has the size to compete against men he needs to get his core strength up and he looks ready to go, it may be worth giving him a taste of AFL next season just so he realises what it takes to succeed at the top level. He could be the answer to all our prayers, to have that height and build gives him a big start on boys who need 3 off seasons just to get to that size, Charlie like Cloke,Tarrant and even Mal Michael has that build already and if there is a certain amount of talent to go with it we will love him and what he brings.

West looks more physically ready than Logan Morris who played a heap of games in his first year at the Lions including the Grand Final so no reason why Charlie wouldn’t play a few games next season if his form is ok in the VFL

There's a reason why West went much later in the draft than McDonald, and while we're all hoping for a miracle chances are if he does come good it will take 2/3 years.

The calls for a key forward are in regards to the fact that Checkers is close to the end and McStay will be 30 next year. Nobody has forgotten McStay or what he can do.

Given the difference in depth quality in both drafts , there probably wasn’t a significant difference in where Morris and West were drafted
In terms of coming on quickly though, Morris was drafted despite his athletic attributes - so obviously had a lot of craft, whereas West was drafted because of his athletic attributes - I wouldn't be expecting his craft to be there yet. Will probably take a while.

What do they go in and under? Blokes shovelling out handballs from the bottom of the pack is a fiction in the modern game. They all keep their feet.

Titch is very good on the inside because hes really smart, reads it beautifully and handles the ball really cleanly. You talk of him as though he's a powerful brute - who needs to be replaced with a powerful brute - he's not a powerful brute.

Daicos, Degoey, Pendles, Crisp, Perryman, Sidey - if they use him as a run with. Hopefully Allan kicking on. It's a really strong group. We're fine in the midfield.

Sit back and enjoy it. Our midfield will be strong regardless of Titch - unless we get hit hard by injuries.
