Lipinski left dogs because he disliked playing wing. Would be interesting if forced to return there
He left the dogs because he was playing VFL.

Lipinski has mostly played as a half forward that rotates on the wing during his time here not sure why he’d complain about an upgrade to the wing full time.

I agree with this. Sidebottom is our best front and square crumbed off the pack and only needs a split second to kick a goal off either foot.

Also, at his age, I doubt he has the speed and endurance to play permanently as a mid, either as wing or tagger.

lol are you seriously questioning Sideys endurance just because of his age?
If anything that will be his strength because it’s the least effected by age. There’s a reason they turned to him as a run with player in the second half of last year.

He left the dogs because they couldn’t find a regular spot for him in the 22, it had nothing to do with his preferred position.

He has endurance, has never had speed, but it's time to put younger guys into the midfield.
Prefer that selection is made on best player in that position.
Sidey is that player for that position. He will have to be forced out by someone who can exceed his exploits in that position.
No one springs to mind.

I doubt he would have left if he was a senior regular playing wing. More likely left because he didn't like playing VFL. He was playing centre square in their VFL team in his final year there..

I think he has been our best crumbed for a long time.

As much as I don’t like the sub rule, I wonder if this could extend his career?

What would it look like having a fresh Sidebottom coming on in midway through the second half running his opponent off his legs and pushing forward to crumb goals?

He was a dogs fanatic as a kid, it was a dream come true for him being drafted by them. He’d never have left them over something as trivial as playing his preferred position.

COLLINGWOOD

Reef McInnes: He has been thrown into defence in an attempt to fill the void left by Nathan Murphy, and McInnes has continued to impress throughout the pre-season. Clean by foot in difficult, windy conditions, McInnes caught the eye as a taller defender and looks to have one hand on the role. “Murph was a really big out for us – you can’t replace a person like Nathan Murphy – but Reef has done a really good job of bringing his strengths,” Darcy Cameron said of McInnes. “He’s training really well, and that move down back is looking really good for him.”

Oscar Steene: The untried ruck is putting his hand up for a senior debut with a strong pre-season. He earned an extension late in last year’s campaign and has become a force this summer, having missed most of 2024 with a toe injury. He was one of the leaders of the pack in the running drills and has impressed teammate Darcy Cameron: “(Steene) is looking really good at the moment – he’s put on a bit of size, he’s running really well,” Cameron said.

Ed Allan: He hasn’t broken into the best 23 at Collingwood yet, but this season is his best chance to get serious game time yet. With Tom Mitchell out with a foot problem and Nick Daicos battling plantar fasciitis, Allan can carve out a role inside the engine room. And he’s been dominant on track, training and running strongly in both inside and outside midfield roles.

Beautiful. Still a solid month or so to build back to his superhuman fitness base

I feel like outside De Goey and possibly Mitchell, all the others will be fine even with minor injury concerns because so many of them started their pre-seasons as soon as the season ended

Even Mitchell was training basically from August.

Lipinski on why he left the Doggies :

It was always about opportunity and with the dogs in a deep midfield wanted more midfield opportunities

When he re- signed last year the club said he would get more inside mid time given our aging mids but he’s happy to be playing wing- half forward until that time

I'm constantly finding myself amazed by training reports that indicate Thomas McGuane is that much more talented, skilled and hardworking at training than our actual AFL listed players. Kid seems to be head and shoulders above everyone bar Naicos at the moment.
You could always go and watch him train yourself so you can make up your own mind. I trust in Jen and the other track watchers who actually see him in action. Would love your expert opinion on Tom.

Yep, I just thought it was timely to hear Lippa's reasons for leaving the Dogs. Not ours.

I don't live in Melbourne and I work full-time so it would be doubly hard for me to make it to training unfortunately.

Anyways I said I was amazed that he seems to be that good.

True to form for him.
I don't really understand what the personal attack is about. I'm pointing out that from all reports (from everyone), McGuane seems to be performing above and beyond even AFL listed players at age 17, so I wonder why he hasn't entered potential pick 1 calculations?
